Playing to win
« on: October 31, 2011, 04:55:17 pm »
Yo everyone. With the new season coming up, i just wanted to give u the link to a maybe interesting article about playing for the win and game-design with its many sides.
i personally don´t support every aspect of the text, but it was a good read nontheless. Some of you might already know it, anyways, but i am pretty sure many have not read it yet.

the scrub is only willing to play to win within his own made-up mental set of rules

I'm already loving it

The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chances of winning. The game knows no rules of “honor” or of “cheapness.” The game only knows winning and losing

ok... this is why you are a scrub for manniping?

FACT: manip is playing for the win.
FACT: complaining about orcs and pointing out how imba they are has made it 3 time easier to team them, and has greatly reduce their winning rate

actually we can put this further

FACT: not maniping is also playing for the win, because player believe you when you truthfully say you're in trouble

:P

lol my bro used to play competetive street fighter and he told me this sirlin guy (the author of the article) is a huge joke in the fighting game community. he inflates his accomplishments so much when he really just licks balls and is a dick. but he is a pretty good writer i guess.

i read this a while back but from what i remember the take away message is that there are no excuses for losing. aside from natural brilliance, everyone is playing the same game, so you have every chance to abuse the same "broken" parts of the game as anyone else. if you embrace those elements in the game and you still lose then it either means you naturally suck or you didnt practice enough. and 99% of the time its that you didnt practice enough.

When I leveled on Northrend as random it was my favorite tactic to use  :icon_mrgreen:

*Noob attacks me*
Me: You know the orc has three +12 claws on his BM and already level 5 TC, we should stop or we'll get our asses kicked
Noob: You're right orc is imba! Go him
