Qualifiers Round 2: Win or Get Out
« on: January 23, 2013, 11:39:40 am »
:FMLN:

After the successful end of the first round of qualifiers (well... as successful as we ever get), we’re pleased to once again congratulate the 7 people who qualified:

:Peru: :ne: Gahh
:USA: :ne: Mog[Skynet]
:Germany: :hu: Lightweight
:Germany: :hu: Humans7ar
:Finland: :ne: J33
:Sweden: :ra: TheThroneismine
:Ukraine: :orc: Nline

We know that you’ll all do well during the season and we look forward to many great games from you guys.  But, that’s old news now.  Now what we have to look forward to is sudden death elimination.  With just 5 spots left in the league, something is going to have to give.  We have big name players such as :Canada: :ne: Renaud and :USA: :ra: Persuade who were too noobish to qualify during the first round and now will be looking to take on the pressure of do-or-die FFA matches.  In addition, we discovered some great talent (that could use some polishing and expereince) during Round 1 that didn’t qualify such as :cvech: :ud: Cechi.  All in all, I think it’s safe to say that we the Admin team are excited for Round 2, and you should be too!

Map:  Deadlock
:Dead_Lock_2:

Q8
:Canada: :ne: Renaud
:Bulgaria: :ud: Lex
:Russia: :ne: Exhale
:Netherlands: :hu: LssL

The top ranked player in this match is none other than Season 12 winner Renaud.  Oh how the mighty have fallen (and finally stopped being ignored in game.)  Still, Renaud is always a threat, and usually refuses to leave the game.  Ever.  Seriously, I’ve played games where he’ll literally hide a single tree for hours on the off chance that he’ll be able to rebuild because he’s being ignored.  The moral of the story?  Don’t stop until you see “FML_Renaud has left the game”  As such, the house money is probably on him.  He’s not lacking good rivals in this match though, and winning to get in certainly won’t be a cakewalk.  LeX, another converted solo player, has not been tested by FML before.  After missing his Round 1 game he will only have 1 chance to qualify for Season 15.  As a solo player though he always creates an interesting factor because he could attack anyone at any time.  If nothing else, he’ll be sure to create a lively game.

Exhale is a Russian Night Elf that we don’t know much about.  He played a solid game in Round 1 of the qualifiers, but then due to a bot error the game crashed.  Aside from that limited play time that has been seen, he’ll be a complete unknown going into the game.  The last player is the newest, but also quickly gaining a reputation not to be messed with.  LssL wasn’t around when the qualifiers started, and just happened to luck into an open qualifier spot.  That being said, he’s been playing any and every FML Ladder game that he can get his computer into, and the rumors are that he’s not to be taken lightly.  Can he stack up to Renaud?  We’ll see.

Q9
:USA: :ra: Persuade
:Germany: :orc: Maddog
:cvech: :ud: Shikaka
:Germany: :ne: Vain_endeavor

Q9 features Persuade as the heavy favorite, but that by no means means that he’s a lock to make it.  He’s been in the past 3 seasons of FML and had a lot of success.  But, he somehow chokes in the semi-finals every time.  He’ll be looking to change that this season, but to do so he’ll need to actually qualify for the season by winning this match.  Maddog is a solid Orc player who has played on and off in FML.  His play style is pretty prototypical of an Orc player, and as such it always makes for a fearsome late game.

Shikaka is a player who is much more well known on WCR and in the solo world than he is in FFA.  He had a shaky start to his FML career in Round 1, and will undoubtedly be looking to fix those mistakes this time around.  He would also like everyone to know that he has beaten Duck in solo once.  The last player in the game is probably the largest variable.  Vain has been a long time solid FFA player, and does well on the FML Ladder.  He’s never been able to translate that into actual FML matches though, but you can be sure that he wants this spot.

Q10
:USA: :ra: Eshan
:Canada: :hu: Sparkle
:Germany: :orc: Fail.Life
:Russia: :hu: Alkorax

This is a match that pits the old guard against the new, the veterans against the rookies, experience vs innovation... sorry I got a bit carried away there.  Kinda forgot this was a FFA match and not a team game.  That being said both Eshan and Sparkle have been around forever in the FFA world, and are well known entities.  Sparkle in particular for his 136 food army, and Eshan for his in game sense.  These two have to be the favorites going into the match, but they’re certain to face some fierce competition.

Fail.Life is another converted solo player, but he’s been playing FFA for a while longer than some of the new blood.  A frequenter of FML Ladder games (and actually showing up for his Round 1 match), he combines some good micro with a growing FFA sense.  He might not quite be on the watch list of most FFA players, but he’s not far off either.  Alkorax is a bit more of an unknown entity.  He plays a solid human game, but has not yet developed a trademark strategy.

Q11
:Sweden: :hu: Starshaped
:Germany: :ud: Jehu
:USA: :ne: Redkeekee
:Russia: :ra: Deadok

In Q11 we give you the one, the only, the Legend Killer!  And a bunch of other guys...

Just kidding.  There’s also Jehu, a solo player who is struggling to adapt to the FFA style.  That being said, he’s actually trying to play like a FFA player which is much appreciated.  Thank you Jehu for not rushing the first thing you see, you just need to make some more expos and stay at 50/80/100 on the dot.  Cechi, if you’re reading this that goes double for you!  Redkeekee is returning to try and qualify for Season 15 after initially saying that he wouldn’t have time.  Rumor says that he’s going to switch over to Orc since we all know how much time and skill that takes to master!  The last player, Deadok, got beaten up on pretty in Round 1 and will be looking to take some ground back.  He’s played plenty of ladder games so he should have a good grasp of what to expect now going into the game.

Q12
:Australia: :orc: Elessar
:cvech: :ud: Cechi
:Germany: :orc: Pinballmap
:USA: :hu: Flame[Skynet]

The last of our matches, and arguably the most exciting in my opinion.  It features one of our admins, PBM, who is due a win soon.  He’s always been a solid player, and this could just be his breakout year.  Elessar, another Orc player, qualified last year but then never showed up again.  In addition, he can talk one of the biggest games in FFA (which trust me, is really saying a lot) so we’ll see if he can back it up.  He may or may not have learned how to read that a player has left the game by now so that’ll add some intrigue to the mix!  That being said, it certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone if he won this match.

The other two players are probably better known in the solo world.  Cechi, and fierce Undead player, made an excellent debut in his previous game.  He outmicroed all the competition and looked to be unstoppable.  The only problem was that he broke 80 food at about 5 mins into the game and never went back down... or bothered to expo when he didn’t have one... or really Macroed at all.  But, it was his first game, I for one suspect that he’ll have things figured out a little bit better once this game comes around.  The other player, Flame[Skynet], isn’t really known.  We know that 1) He doesn’t like to show up to his Round 1 qualifier matches.  2) He wants to pretend he isn’t Flame.  and 3) He likes to tower rush Mog.

Well, that’s all folks.  Please join us at FFAMasters.net for more information!

Then one of the solo players that gets in will think ffa is stupid, quit, and force you back in.

Q9-Q11 look promising as for a good game, Q8 i only know renaud and lssl a little bit, so idk. Q12 will see, if cechi plays after r1 ^^, i hope pbm is motivated , also i am wondering, if flameskynet is the guy, that always gets subbed... btw, elessar said he is not ready to play ffa at a competetive lvl and wants to be replaced by ntropy.

^You are thinking of the  :ne: player DarkFlameMaster. Flame[skynet] is just a  :hu: solo noob who probably won't even show up to the match :)

Is it a good or a bad thing to be in this group of death?
I saw LssL play and that scared me, but I know nothing of the other two!

Slythe reported for making false comments about me and trying to manipulate (what a surprise  :icon_rolleyes:) admins into replacing me with ntropy! Thus trolling the thread and bringing the league into disrepute.

Updated to include the match writeups I'm putting on WCR.  That thread can be found here

For those of you who didn't get much attention, sorry it's because I don't know you.  If you start playing more I promise I'll make fun of you just as much as I do for those I know currently.

Also fixed your race Deadok
