Hey there,

Back in the day, there was on the Clan Lone website a series of guides to download. Among the different FFA bibles that were most likely improved over the years and rewritten on this website, existed a decent 4s guide called the Protocol. The 4s tournament scene has died, but for nostalgia purposes, I would appreciate to read it again.

I'm quite sure many of you know what I'm talking about. I would appreciate to have a link for that PDF (or was it even a Word document?).

Thanks for the help!

I know exactly what you are talking about, that protocol guide was uploaded in WCReplays I think by some "Captain_something" and it showed strategies of 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4. It dates back to 2005 and 2006 I think when WEST/Lordaeron was the shit at AT. I downloaded it in 2014, but must have lost it because I´m looking for it myself.

If you can convince the old P4K team to form back, I'll join :)

if I´m not mistaken it was made in PDF format and it had images describing each strategy, whether it was for 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4, it really looked cool. It also mentioned a lot the koreans (although americans probably) LoGG_oN , they were a group of pros at AT who ruled east and west back in 2005/06. Back then I was noobie with little knowledge of the game, but I still remember vividly because most of my longterm friends come from that time.

Hmm, don't think I found what you want but did find a couple of things.

Comprehensive 3v3 guide: http://www.wcreplays.com/articles/guest/AComprehensiveGuideto3v3.pdf

"Now those of you saying “Wow I can’t believe this self-righteous prick has the nerve to
write his own guide to 3s” should probably stop crying and go wash the sand out of your
vaginas. Anyone saying “ROFL 3s is for noobs” probably belongs to that large group of people
I’ve raped. You can go take a long walk off a short bridge. And still yet there are some saying
“LOL, Admiral_Thrawn I’ve owned him so many times”. Congratulations, you are obviously the
best player in the world and, as such, have no need to continue reading further. For the rest of
you, I sincerely hope to give you the benefit of my experience so that you can improve and enjoy
this game type as much as I do"

HAAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAA I'VE MISSED THIS SO MUCH

Was it ProtonxX himself who wrote the Protocol guide? Or maybe was it Hydro?

I remember thinking about the old proto 4s strat after I started FFA and my immediate thought was these guys would get demolished by a team of competent FFA players. Proto played so much upon your enemies lack of understanding and inability to deal with laming. FFA players have a huge understanding of the game and are able to deal with laming very well.

Ouch, I wouldn't say that. I mean, the protocol was written by FFA players to adapt an FFA strategy to 4s. I'm not saying it can't be beaten, but it wasn't written up so that it would get crushed by initiated FFA players. Most likely, the meta could evolve pass the protocol, but it was the master of all meta back in the best, most competitive 4s days. I agree it could have evolved, but it didn't.

And that meta included a lot of FFA players, playing with or without the protocol.

Well the protocol was "Play 4s like it's a FFA"

Originally, this meant ignoring your allies, and just doing your own little thing. This meant that even if one player died the team would not be cut off a certain type of units.  Also whenever someone "died" he would do the ffa thing... try to rebuild in a corner, NOT feed whoever else is on the team. This meant that the game would not usually end after one decisive battle, but would drag on into the late game, where the FFA players had an advantage. It was basically a 4v1v1v1v1

After a while, it became mass towers and feeding :(

Yeah, I think Renaud hit the nail on the head. Proto at its origins was not towers and tanks/chims/wyrms/etc it truly was just every person for themselves. What it turned into sucks, but what it truly was was awesome.
