thanks to all of you that posted to show support before zetaboard blocked the thread as they are now communicating with me.

still waiting on what the outcome might be and will keep you posted asap.

I cannot have the bots run unmonitored so thats why they are stopped. Inhouse bot is still there for your entertainment in the meantime if you wanna play anything.

That is why I love this fcking community.

Damn I didn't see the thread or I would have posted for sure! I'm sure I speak for most of the community when I say we will do what is necessary to keep playffa running one way or another!

I understand your frustration. It is very annoying to have someone attack and get away with it. Do you have any information as to who wants to do this to your board or why?

I want to do whatever is possible to help your board and end this attack.
We are testing some additional hardware that should bring this to an end soon

now their admins are all checking my answer while before my ticket stayed unread for 12 hours.

So once again, thks

I was sleeping when this whole thread started, wish I could have written something too.  I'm just really glad they've seen the testimonials and responded.  When I came back to check out what FML's situation was, I only did it this time because my hours got cut at my day job and I have a lot more time than I did before (which was basically not much time).  But this whole PlayFFA system and massive amount of activity is pretty phenomenal.

To make them understand the situation, I linked them war3tv's call for help in March 2014 and explained how it ended (died in June 2014).

If you are any curious :

War3tv asking for help

This post explains how Aaron felt at that time :
His detailed explanation of the events and how he felt about them less than 3 months before quiting

I exactly feel the same at the moment

Wow, glad the community rallied behind you to help. I would have written something also if I had seen the post. Hope that they bring playFFA back and get everything fixed.

So as much as Lightweight is being a Troll, he does have a good point. Zetaboards is a low quality hosting service. Personally, I think PlayFFA should just take the site and move it to someplace which is more reliable and legitimate. Ugri, if you need help with this, just let me know, I have the experience to get it done for you as long as you can provide the money and back-ups of the old site.

The CEO of Proboards is a personal friend of mine, he was in my old WoW guild and when he was in town here in Chicago for business we met up and had dinner, knocked back a few drinks, chatted/bullshitted.  I'll ask him if he does web hosting and the like, at the very least I'd highly recommend him for forum hosting.

Honestly, even they're a bit shady. I was more suggesting a webhost which specifically advertises protection against DDoS attacks and has support available for your website 24/7. As much as I don't really like the company much, GoDaddy is the first one which comes to mind which provides this. i'm sure there are plenty of others.

From the GoDaddy website:

Quote
Award-winning security keeps your site safe
Keeping a website secure is a full time job. That’s why our security team is on the job 24/7, monitoring your site for suspicious activity and protecting it against brute force and DDoS attacks.

If you're using a host which advertises Free Forum hosting, has only forum support and lacks any security features.... you're just asking for DDoS attacks.

Why do you say they're shady, out of curiosity? I just spoke with him, unfortunately they only focus on forums. They do pay for anti DDOS, but of course not everything is guaranteed.

EDIT - Some good news as well, if you're at all interested!

hey so I talked to our sysadmin.  He said the ddos's probably won't be an issue.  In terms of "hosting" we do give you the ability to create custom pages in your forum (e.g. customize all the HTML), but you can't run programs (e.g. PHP) on them.  You can also set one of the custom pages as your forum "homepage" so people don't actually see the forum first.

If there is anything that we can do as a community to help, please let us know.  Even donations, I'd be happy to chip in some $.

I'm sure we could raise enough money to move it to a more secure host if that is the direction ugri decides to take. I haven't previously donated to playffa, but I would definitely donate some of what I can if it helped keep playffa alive and kicking in a more secure and functional way. And I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way. The amount of activity and competition playffa has brought back to wc3 is incredible and is something worth standing behind and supporting in my opinion.
