The time limit was done so that the players would have time to practice the actual map (to avoid ebo like player who would only say the map the day of).  Sparkle gave us 2 choice and left, we picked one of the two.

Of course, we could switch to silverpine if all the players agreed too (since the goal of the rule was to protect the players) but persuade clearly said he prefered deathrose :/

Also, note how I'm able to reply to your comment w/o quoting it!

That's fine.

In the future perhaps we could have a vote between the other three players in the event that the picker fails to choose in time?  Just a suggestion.

The trouble with this idea is that it doesn't allow the admins to fuel our power hungry desires.

It's simple really, Renaud doesn't want to risk the chance of another elf coming even close to winning a finals as he won't be special anymore, so he picked deathrose.
