YouTube Milestone

Well, ordinarily I'd start this off with something along the lines of; "We knew this would happen one day."  However, that really isn't applicable.  About 6 months ago it suddenly dawned on me that my god, we are living way out of our time.  People have been streaming WC3 for a long time now, and FML is still just using replays.  You know, maybe there would be an audience that's interested in watching me play FFA.  Then I realized that was dumb and no one would be interested, however people might actually be interested in watching some of the greatest FFA players that WC3 has ever known play FFA, and getting to do so from the observer point of view.

This turned out to be correct, and with the help of people like Searcher_FF, Calypso, Wan, Jey_s_Tears, and Renaud I think it's safe to say that FFA and FML has taken off in the Twitch-o-sphere.  While it's never going to be as popular as solo or other games, we have built our own niche and have a group of dedicated fans, and that's great.  It was a little while after we'd been streaming on Twitch that I discovered this miraculous button that exported videos to YouTube from Twitch.  This got me thinking and talking to Worpex about our YouTube channel which was pretty much completely barren except for one half-hearted shoutcast by Worpex, Magadansky, and myself. 

That's where the trouble all started really.  You see I saw that and thought well this couldn't be too hard to improve upon could it?  The answer was no, it really wasn't hard to improve upon.  The follow up answer was that it was going to be much harder to be any good at it though.  I still can't claim that I know what I'm doing, or that I'm any good.  I can however say with confidence that it's gotten better, and I've learned a lot.  I now know exporting from Twitch is crap, and that I need to record in HD on my computer.  I've learned how to set delay, use Skype to do dual shoutcasts, and set different resolutions.  It's been a full month now since I've done a shoutcast that didn't get recorded because my mic wasn't registering!  As sad as it is, that may actually be a new record for me.  I've had tons of fans suggest different ideas for what to shoutcast, and give me both positive and critical feedback for where I can improve. 

Frankly, it's people that watch it that motivate me to do shoutcasts, without them I wouldn't still be doing these.  And it's these wonderfully insane people who watch the casts that have gotten us to our milestone.  It was actually passed earlier this week, but in my typical fashion I didn't have my shit together to get it posted then! 

The FML YouTube Channel has Passed 10k Views

Now, this might not seem like a huge deal, after all single videos frequently pass 10k views.  However, we are a small group of people who play a 10 year old video game, and our videos are rather lengthy to say the least.  So I'm going to go ahead and post some stats here that can help everyone appreciate how truly incredible this is.  Pay particular note to the time watched.

Now, I find all of these stats to be pretty cool by themselves.  However to put things in a bit of perspective I'll just throw out two other numbers. 

For every Dislike on the videos there are 78 Likes.

The average view is 11.7 minutes

I am beyond impressed with the dedication and interest that FML and FFA fans have shown to our YouTube channel and hope that they will continue to do so.  I'd also like to give a huge thank you to the people that have helped make this all possible: Worpex, SirPureBe, Wrecktify.  These 3 (and a few others) have helped me become a much better shoutcaster than I naturally am, and they really help to carry the shoutcasts that they're in since I don't feel as if I always have to be talking.  Lastly, thanks to everyone who watches, without you I wouldn't be doing them!
