News / Re: Mini Cup Series | Announcement
« on: November 04, 2022, 06:50:07 pm »
How to sign-up and play
• Pre-register in FML discord https://discord.gg/7XKMuzA
• You can pre-register for multiple weekend's cups
• Pre-registrations after the 16th person go to the wait-list -- you will be the first to fill in spots if they open up
• We only consider pre-registrations for a cup up to 12 hours prior, after that you can still check-in and hope to find a spot, but it is not guaranteed
• While you don't have to pre-register to join a cup, spots are limited so we encourage you to pre-register early to secure a spot. It also greatly helps admins to plan the event
• Players who win a cup and qualify for the overall final cannot play in subsequent cups, regardless of pre-registration

Checking-in on Cup days
• Check-in begins 30 minutes before each cup (FML discord)
• When check-in closes, if there are more than 16 people, the 16 player spots are given with this prioritization:
1. Players who pre-registered (first 16)
2. Players on the waitlist (pre-registered after 16)
3. Players who haven't played a cup match yet
4. Everyone else: the order of check-in
• Match assignments are drawn and announced when check-in closes. The game should be immediately hosted and start within 10 minutes
• Players who don't show up will be subbed, no delays

Other rules
• Same rules as FML except the following (mostly to support a cup format)
• In the case of a timer ending, winner is determined by hero kills followed by gold mined
• No islands
• Players each have only 5 minutes pause
• Games will not be re-hosted unless there is a disconnect in the first 2 minutes
• Match assignments will be loosely seeded by performance in recent FFA events
• Games must be hosted from event map-pack
• Maps are custom and have sudden death starting at 75 minutes and game ending at 90 minutes

Sudden death features
• Players gold and lumber cut in half
• Heroes base HP cut in half
• Buildings max HP drop to 25%
• Workers can't build new buildings

Most importantly, even though we hope for good competition, this is meant to be a fun FFA event. Treat each other with respect so we can keep this small community together and continue doing more FFA events in the future.

:ra2: I'm excited to finally announce the FFA Mini Cup Series! :ra2:
This event consists of 4 weekends of "mini cups" followed by a final. Starting on the 12th of November, each Saturday at 19 CEST / 13 EST, there will be a mini cup. Basic details
• All players are welcome to join (as long as you are known to the community - no smurfs!)
• Play in as many weekend cups as you want
• No prizepool (we play FFA for passion and bragging rights)
• All games are 4-way FFA, time capped at 90 minutes, with the final 15 minutes as sudden death

News / FML Season 32 | Winner

:FMLMO:

:gold: :gold: :gold: :gold:

Congratulations to our FML Season 32 Champion :USA: Peregrine (Eshan)!

It was an incredibly difficult 4+ hour game, featuring multiple multi-race armies, nearly maxed-out heroes, and many incredible moments.

His victory makes him the 6th player from USA to take the title, and the 5th player to take the title with orc (and only the second time orc was picked rather than randomed!).

Thank you to everyone for participating in this season, please check back in a couple weeks for an announcement on next events. Happy FFAing!

News / FML Season 32 | Finals
« on: June 06, 2021, 06:38:54 pm »
 :FMLN:

The time has come once again for the battle for the ultimate FFA prestige: the fight for the FML season title! These four players fought tooth-and-nail throughout the season, and proved their mettle to get a spot on this stage, so congratulations to these four competitors:

:Russia: :ud: qwest
:USA: :ra: Peregrine
:Russia: :ra: sheik
:Germany: :ra: trunkz

The race representation here is interesting as we have multiple players that can play multiple races. Now we wait to see what it all comes down to when the players queue up.

Qwest, being the top seed, has chosen Imaginary Friends as the map, so it should be a very interesting game. Players - please go schedule your match and hopefully we can get a nice live stream, possibly on B2W. Everyone else - please post your predictions below, keep checking back for an announcement on the match date, and tune in and enjoy the show!

News / Re: FML Season 32 | Round 2
« on: April 19, 2021, 03:25:02 pm »
I'm looking forward to this round, there's some really interesting matches here.

M8
:USA: :ra: Peregrine :Russia: :ra: Neytpoh :Finland: :ra: aarnikratti :Brazil: :ra: SelfControlMe

This one is spicy. Peregrine and Neutron faced each other down in the previous season's semi-finals, where they had an excruciating 3-way with Seksi and there were a lot of heated emotions. In addition, aarni and peregrine have almost never seen eye-to-eye, so there will likely be some tension there, if not outright animosity.

M9
:Poland: :ne: Gradient :Russia: :ud: qwest :Russia: :orc: Airenikus :France: :ra: SyDe

This is the first time in my memory that these two undead juggernauts of the modern era will clash. Add to that the polish tank, gradient, and the formidable Airen, it should be a very dynamic match.

M10
:Argentina: :ne: supremo :Germany: :ra: letshavesomefun :Sweden: :ra: junkerzam :United_Kingdom: :ra: Enjoi

While junker has been a top player on the scene since he started, shave has been increasing skill over the years little by little, with a power-up slower than any DBZ character. Maybe it is finally time for him to go super saiyan.

M11
:USA: :ra: GivenToFly :Russia: :ra: sheik :Peru: :ud: NoMercy2 :Germany: :orc: ostone

This one looks like a pretty open field for sheik.

M12
:Lithuania: :ra: Peanut :Austria: :hu: rulaZ :Germany: :orc: 5te1n :Peru: :ne: headintheclouds

Disciple of Sun-Tzu, stein, meets poker prodigy, rulaz. This will be a military chess-match for sure. The other two won't even be able to comprehend what they are witnessing, with their 80% less brain surface area compared to those two.

M13
:Serbia: :ne: Voxius :Finland: :ne: Leluaami :Germany: :ra: trunkz :Peru: :hu: tukimkim

Lelu's consistency has leveled him up to the high echelons, but at the top awaits the boss-level trunkz. In the end though, we may learn that tree hiding beats insane unit combos and micro.

M14
:USA: :ud: Vyvanne :Sweden: :orc: fetta_ook :Ireland: :ud: M00se :Peru: :ra: LION

Looks like a fairly even match to me. Vyv or fetta have advantage here, but I don't think either are very try-hard at the moment, so let's see.

General Discussion / Re: 2020 Review
« on: December 30, 2020, 05:05:22 pm »
I was very grateful to find a very active community still enjoying FFA when I came back earlier this year. I was drawn in by the map making contest and stayed around to play in TBR 5 - both very fun events that helped me stay entertained through the pandemic. Of course I really appreciate all the work you've done to keep FFA afloat Hightac!

Here's to keeping the format and community alive for another few years. Cheers!

News / A look back at FML: Lots of numbers
« on: September 27, 2020, 08:52:17 pm »
 :FMLN:

Hey all, it's been quite a while since we last updated the FML stats spreadsheet. This time around I wanted to take it a step further and make a dataset of all recorded 4-player matches (minus some random cups we hosted in the past). This now includes season 1, season 6, KoFFA3, and all TBRs. I pulled 90% of that data straight from posts on this site, and added the rest from TBR spreadsheets. This should be the most comprehensive view of FML to date. The csv with the full match data is attached to this post.

If you see any errors please let me know - such as if there are two AKAs which should be associated with the same player.

Full standings and matches: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E0Xo_M1gzLkAI5Vhg61vIeh4sL_ih2_RmSWvUQgfgVg/edit?usp=sharing

Let's get into the numbers.

Total matches recorded: 1094
Total unique players: 364

A timeline of the data - each point is a recorded match

Total players and subs - per event

Sub rate per match - a value of 0.5 means there is 1 sub roughly every other game

Players with most total wins - Wreck is still on top!

Players with most 4th places - Renaud is the king ;)

Players who have made it to 5 or more playoff matches

Players who have made it to 3 or more finals

Now for the juiciest stats...

Top winrate all time (with at least 15 games played)

Top winrate in recent seasons (S26, S27, S28, S29, S30, S31 with at least 15 games played)

Top winrate in TBR (with at least 5 games played)

Race breakdown for top 20 all time - Big shocker there :icon_rolleyes:

And finally, as a bonus for those of us who have been around long enough to have witnessed one of the greatest rivalries in FML history...I looked into the matches between Wrecktify and Magadansky:

Maga wins:
Magadansky,Walking.TrL,Wrecktify,SNK,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=590.0,2007-12-04,s6
Magadansky,Nooblex,Wrecktify,Nline,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=2439.0,2008-03-16,s7 (final)
Magadansky,Humans7ar,Wrecktify,SteppinRazor,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=742.0,2012-09-16,s13 (final)
Magadansky,Wrecktify,Seksi,Humans7ar,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=1037.0,2013-04-22,s15 (final)
Magadansky,Lightweight,PwNu.WaN,Wrecktify,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=1128.0,2013-06-04,s16
Magadansky,j33,Wrecktify,qwest,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=2256.0,2016-04-10,s22

Wreck wins:
Wrecktify,Magadansky,Lightweight,Vain_Endeavour,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=541.0,2012-04-22,s12
Wrecktify,Magadansky,QHKane,redkeekee,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=546.0,2012-04-29,s12
Wrecktify,Magadansky,svedirko,Lightweight,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=1321.0,2013-09-02,s16 (final)

Ties:
Kruppe,Magadansky,Wrecktify,Mage,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=298.0,2011-12-11,s11
Yane,Wrecktify,Magadansky,Ostone,http://ffamasters.net/index.php?topic=1645.0,2014-04-09,s18

From this, the all time score between those legends is Magadansky 6-2-3 Wrecktify --  they've met 11 times and 4 of those matches were finals! Of course the debate about which of these players was stronger will never end, but I think it's safe to say this is one more point for team Maga.

Hope you all enjoyed seeing some of these stats -- let's see if we can add another decade to the story ;)

Hey Moggy, TBR5 will be played on Bnet (accessible from reforged or from original CD Key). Also, there is a new 3rd-party ladder through w3champions.com. It's a lightweight program that loads you into bnet and tracks your matches. Right now there's some bugs they are working through, but there was a surprising amount of activity on there so far.

Signing up for TBR5:

USA UD Red7z7
Reason to draft me: every team is going to have some beginners, but with me you get an active team member who is coachable, good attitude, and willing to tryhard for the team.

News / Re: Patch 1.31
« on: April 30, 2019, 04:32:37 am »
Incite frenzy is a really interesting change. I think in it's current form it is probably OP, but could be balanced by having a maximum units affected per cast - maybe 5 units or something.

Ritual dagger does seem OP for FFA, but I like their thinking in trying to make other hero combos viable for UD by not having to rely on DK to creep. Hope they can work that one out.

The new effect from orb of fire that prevents healing by 50% seems too strong for HU v UD to me, since hero focus has always been horrible there. But then again I haven't played since they started patching again, so maybe that's no longer the case.

Agree with Eshan that Charm is quite balanced.

The only change that is a must for me is fixing FFA matchmaking, everything else is icing

edit: and the ability to reconnect to a game
