So in Garena today, we came up with this cool idea (although very radical) and I was curious to see what others opinions of it were.
With a 6 round season, we can do a cool elimination style format. every 2 rounds we eliminate players until, at the end, we're left with 10 people for the play-offs.
This is the idea:
Round 1 through 2 has 40 players. Afterwards, we eliminate the last 8.
Rounds 2 and 3 have 32 players.
At rounds 5 and 6, we have 20 players remaining.
Finally, we cut 10 players and bring the grand total to 10. The top 2 players auto-qualify for the grand finals as usual. The rest are in the playoffs for the last 2 spots!
This is just to see what others think about the idea! Personally, I sort of like it. Makes the regular season more interesting!

The other options is to have a week of qualifiers, where 8-12 players play for the last 2-3 spots

i like the drop to 32 players, not sure about the rest (yet)
Because otherwise we would need some qualifiers round, and i want to play asap!

Well we have at the moment 41/42 applications for 32 spots.
My idea was to make a preliminary round between unknown players who applied and those who didnt clinched a win last season.
We would keep 29 players
12 players would do a preliminary round on deathrose. The 3 winners join the league.
29+3 = 32

I like the idea, in Season 10 the final round for several groups was just a pointless "play for fun" game... if we do 6 games this season I can see that being even more so due to how much spread there will be in points.

yes, but i would say its better to only "eliminate" people after they have 0 chance of making semi. cutting people off for performing worse early on is doing them an injustice, as they could still win and catch back up

I think the people who would be removed first would likely be the ones who didn't show up for their matches or quit the league 2 weeks in. The only active players who would get eliminated after 2 weeks would most likely be someone with 2 loses in a row.

elimination is the same thing as the swiss system except you remove people from the lower brackets from the tourney instead of letting them play. doesnt seem very nice (except in the cases where they become inactive or have 0 chance of semi). why not let bottom brackets continue playing? i dont think it takes away any prestige/excitement from the top bracket games

Good point : top players are playing together with the swiss system, what is the use of kicking the bottom? I think the goal was to make ffa popular.
Too much reality tv there, kicking players every two weeks...
Btw darkness, play for fun isnt pointless

The idea works under the assumption that if a player does badly the first two rounds because let's say a player from Clan Lone suicides him it's impossible for him to make a comeback.

agree with red and Q. in addition, would also encourage some major rushing a player out even if it ruins your chance to win just to avoid being in 4th place.
i do like the idea about the qualifier with the unknown players. gives them a chance to get in, gives us a chance to see them play. try outs!

I think people leave or stop playing anyway and the league adjusts accordingly. I don't see the point in forcing it.

Agree with Ugri and Red
