Title: Your Live E-Sports Experiences
Post by: FML|Mage on April 11, 2014, 10:56:27 am
So Pers and I were talking the other day, and it turns out he's going to The International IV, which I am incredibly jealous about.  I've actually never been to one of the big events like Blizcon, MLG, WCG, etc but would really like to go to one.  I figure with this collection of people it'd be kinda interesting to hear about other people's experiences either going to them, playing in them, or any other thoughts.  So, go ahead and share.

Huge DOTA 2 tournament, I probably should have explained.  It's put on by Valve though and has a great prize pool.  The first million is funded by Valve and after that 25% of the sales for it go towards the prize pool.  Last years was 2.87M and I suspect this years will be higher.  It's a 4 day event, and even if you don't play DOTA 2 the live streams are incredible.  It's a game that is built for E-Sports and the viewers since it mixes simple, great artwork and always exciting together.

I went to MLG Columbus a few years back when i still cared about Starcraft 2. Went with my old warcraft mates from nG although they were known as Team Stoic in SC2. Got my ass handed to me but had a blast! Got to meet a lot of former WC3 pros including Moon, Thorzain, Axslav, Demuslim and some others. Was a good time!

@ugri and renaud : make pics plz :D

Too bad such big events are very rare and just one event in a bunch of years. I remember that WCG 2008 was in Germany, Cologne, but i failed to get there.

Went to WCG 2010 (America) for WC3, and WCG 2014 (America) for SC2. WCG was on its last legs, but they were both still a lot of fun. They are usually held at awesome places, 2010 was at Universal Studios in California, and 2014 was held at NYC Comic Con. For me most of the fun comes in traveling to places and hanging out with people I own on ladder everyday (kidding). Personally I could care less how I place at the events, but then again I play for fun and not as a job. I am supposed to go to MLG Anaheim in a month or two, I kind of hate the attitude of sc2 players though... Kind of drunk right now, so i can give more details later if you want. BTW Dota2 sucks because there is not 5 ducks in the world, so I would have to carry 4 noobs.

Heh I'm from Orange County, like 15 mins away from all the Blizzcons and stuff, yet the biggest thing I've ever been to is the diablo 3 release party at the Irvine Spectrum. Now that I don't live their anymore I really regret never having gone to anything.
