season lenght
« on: October 11, 2011, 04:57:01 am »
The lenght of season 6 has been decided on 6 rounds following players request.

The 3 admins that we are are not too enthusiactic :

- risk of players leaving the league before the end
- lot of game without any stake
All that increasing the numbers off subs etc...

Before we push forward, I wanted to be sure that it was the majority of the players which wanted 6 rounds. I discussed with some and I'm not convinced.

imo 6 rounds are too long. Especially the lower ranked players which will have no chance to get into the playoffs will be frustrated and stop playing the last rounds. So i hope the new season wont have 6 rounds. I'm fine with 4 or 5 rounds.

i think 4 round is too short for 32 players! (but perfect for 16)
so ill go with 5!

(although it doesn't really matter for me, because im going 6-0 this season... 7-0 if you consider the finals)

weird that four rounds is winning, i think most people believe that 4 is too short. I voted for 6 because it gives the best chance for the swiss system to develop properly, with the best players in the lead by the end. And with only 32 committed players, I dont think we will have much problems with guys dropping out, and hopefully everyone schedules promptly.

If not 6 then 5, but 4 is too short!! More people need to vote!!

How many players did we have for season 10? The 4 rounds worked like perfect for that amount of players

6!!

6 promotes the most accurate standings because of a larger sample size.  With only 4 games, one or two bad games could be season-ending.  Further, it allows for more games and more maps! /agree with eshan's comments about this also

I voted for 5 after reading Ugri's arguments in fear of people not voting for 6. You may probably count my vote for 6 rounds then, since I anticipated most people would go for the middle way and they didn't (my bad). On the other hand I'm still really indifferent between 5 and 6, but I would absolutely argue in favor of more than 4 rounds!

3 month main season is really long. the 4 games 2 month main season + 1 month semi/finals seemed perfect (even that seemed a little long because those eliminated had not much to do, only 3 games to watch for the last month, and maybe even no stakes in the last game they did play in).

4 games definitely was enough to filter out the skill from the non skill, i think. there were a few good players that didnt make it in and a few not so good players that did make it in. is that really so bad? i think its not 100% fair, but its still exciting and fun. and in the end certainly someone who deserves it will win the title, as we saw.

and you must also consider that shorter season = more season = more winners. it all works out :D

with the logistics problems (people leaving league, getting bored, etc etc) it seems to me that 4 game main season is much better than 6. 5 games may be doable, but i will say that 4 is better

I agree with Red7z7 100%. However, I am not opposed to trying new things out. Perhaps 6 games will end up working out very well.

Majority rules, and even if 4 games won out on this vote, we had already officially announced that it was going to be 6 games. It won't change. Those that know me know that I wont ever go back on my word if its been officially announced.
