It's safe to say that the loss of Zotac marked the end of an era for WC3.  However, it does not appear that it will be the end of WC3, and in fact it could be quite the opposite in fact.  We all know the wonders that Ugri has worked for the FFA community with PlayFFA, and it looks like War3tv and W3Arena may be able to achieve the same level of success in the solo world which is fantastic news.  They are putting together a biweekly tournament known as the OPEN Cup which will be open to anyone to play, just as Zotac was.  However unlike Zotac, OPEN Cup will take place on W3Arena.  I've included a blurb from the site below, as well as the source.

With the recent closing of Zotac’s Warcraft 3 weekly tournament, a large hole was left in the current solo scene. Zotac cups were a part of the WC3 community for the last 7 years and were a place where players, no matter their skill level, could compete in an open bracket format. In an effort to bring back a similar event, war3tv is proud to announce OPEN Cup.

OPEN Cup will be similar to Zotac in the open registration format. As long as you have a copy of Warcraft 3, you are free to join the event. There are a few things that will separate OPEN Cup from events of the past, however.

I would highly recommend that everyone go check out the site and register today, in addition to the tournament they look like they will be a great source for replays, WC3 discussion, and new commentaries!
