Ladder Seasons / Re: playFFA ladder breaking news
« on: April 07, 2018, 03:51:33 pm »
Bot seems to be not recording most of the FFA games from today.  Won a game like 5 hours ago and it never showed up in my games listings.

In any event, long live ugri the king of FFA bot!  Very nice to see this up again, surely it will bring back some of the players who have not been active in a long time.

Strategy / Re: Beginners FML FFA Guide
« on: March 04, 2018, 09:56:30 am »
Solo has a far higher skill cap then FFA.  In theory, FFA is harder to win (25%) then a solo (50%) assuming generally equally skilled player but that does not mean FFA is harder to master then solo.  In FFA, if you have good micro, gold management, and understand the gametype you can be a very strong player.  Solo requires a tremendous in-depth understanding of every matchup, every map and its affect on every matchup, pin-point timing (sometimes literally 10 seconds window of opportunity), and punishes tiny mistakes ridiculously hard.  The guys who are top solo pros have to play like 12 hours a day to maintain that level of skill.

That being said, I hate solo and would rather play FFA any day ;D

Big thanks to PBM for all his time and efforts to make FML such a great experience.  I believe he is the third longest tenured admin after Renaud and of course Worp.  Nice to hear that a ladder is going to be up again soon (I literally just posted something about this).  Hope to see a revival of FFA and ladder competition, seems very dead right now.

General Discussion / Re: The Greatest FFA Players of All Time
« on: November 16, 2017, 11:09:15 am »
I would say top 10 all time would be:

1. Magadansky - Best player in FFA for the longest period in time.  Most wins in FML history, one of the most balanced players to ever play

2. Wrecktify - Most successful FML player ever, one of the smartest FFA players to ever play who has adapted well with all of the changes in FFA play over the years

3. HTRT - Probably the best OVERALL talent to ever play FFA.  He was basically the ultimate example of the kind of player who needed to be teamed if he was anything less then totally dead.  Excellent game sense and overall skill

4. NOEXXX - Maga was probably the best player in FFA from season 10 until somewhere around season 20 or so, and NOE now holds that title.  Extremely balanced player with no weaknesses, has the potential to become #1 if he continues this success

5. Lightweight -Best player to never win a title.  I am maybe the only person who hold this opinion, but I believe him to be the BEST overall orc FFA player to ever play and his human was equally as good as his orc.

6. Seksi - Best random player to play, extremely long period as a dominate player, similar to LW he is one of a few who definitely deserves an FML title.

7. J33 - Maybe he doesn't have the dominate micro of the others, but there is NO ONE who has pulled off as many wins in "unwinnable" games as he has.  A pure FFA player whos 2 titles and overall wins speak for itself.

8. Persuade - Another excellent random player with great overall skillset who played and won for a long time.  Very comparable to seksi in overall skill, only made 1 final (i think) and did not win but certainly was considered a top 5 player in FFA for many seasons and years

9. Yane - Yane is like HTRT, could have been a top 3 player but just didnt hang around long enough to get the resume.  His micro skill was unbelievable, and he had excellent understanding of FFA.  Like HTRT, had he stuck around longer he would be higher ranked here.  Second best undead to ever play FFA

10. Renaud - Renaud is not at the skill level overall of the above players, but NO ONE HAS PLAYED MORE FFA GAMES IN HUMAN HISTORY THEN THIS MAN.  He has literally been around for all 26 seasons of FML and has been competitive in them.  His style hasnt changed in 10 years, but his accomplishments cannot be argued that he is one of the most distinguished players to ever play

Other players who come to mind: ztsoso, humanstar, mog, tyrant, duck, DV, qwest, darknesscalls, daselend, nline, yz, brainman, Rain, Flash, Yaws, Cumulo

:Germany: :ne: HighTac [Rage]
:Lithuania: :hu: EvilPeanut [BM]
:Russia: :ud: Jaod [Ena]
:Germany: :orc: Fail.Life [CoR]

I don't know a ton about anyone except Jaod, but he has a knack for being a cunning player so Ill go with him.  I expect something like 3v1 on the human for hu imba and then faillife randomly suicides into hightac while jaod is "dead" with like 10k more then everyone else

:MT: M18
:Germany: :hu: LssL [Rage]
:USA: :ne: WRECKTIFY [BM]
:World: :ne: TomToast [Ena]
:Peru: :hu: Zs.Supercumulo [CoR]

Never bet against Tom Brady, The Golden State Warriors, and of course King Wrecktify 8D

:MO: M19
:Russia: :orc: Airenikus [Rage]
:Germany: :ra: Slythe [BM]
:Germany: :ne: Trunks [Ena]
:USA: :ra: Seksi [CoR]

Time for seksi to win some games.  If you are taking into account the history of all of these players, he's the best one here and while he's maybe not in TOP form he's still plenty good to win.  Surely trunks cant just steamroll his way to an undefeated season can he?  I don't think hes aggressive style will work against seksi and slythe who are too smart of players to lose a fast game against a micro monster type

:SA: M20
:Finland: :ne: Aarnikratti [Rage]
:Russia: :ne: Dinamo [BM]
:Germany: :hu: QQs [Ena]
:Canada: :ne: Renaud [CoR]

Sanctuary is the ultimate renaud map.  I expect dinamo and qqs to suicide while letting renaud bank like 90k

:FF: M21
:Germany: :orc: MrSweets [Inc]
:USA: :ne: ludakatapro [FREE]
:Switzerland: :hu: Noexxx [SS]
:USA: :ne: Mog [Zig]

Considering noe already lost to mog once, he can't possibly lose twice can he??  I think he will rush mog and then have an easy 1v2 against the others with mass tp abuse

:MT: M22
:USA: :orc: IWANTWC4 [Inc]
:World: :orc: Joggel [FREE]
:USA: :ra: AlienWareOwnZ [SS]
:USA: :ra: Eshan [Zig]

If eshan dies first this game is way easier for everyone, so I think it will be a priority for alien to rush him out if it all possible.

:MO: M23
:World: :orc: Betoon [Inc]
:Poland: :ne: Gradient [FREE]
:Germany: :ra: SosoHasRedHair [SS]
:Hungaria: :ud: Tyrant [Zig]

Easy win for tyrant if he can rush out shave, then take a 2v1 vs the others.  I think gradi has an outside chance if things get out of control and he can get a lot of gold and buildings

:SA: M24
:Sweden: :orc: Fetta_ook [Inc]
:Argentina: :ne: Supremo [FREE]
:France: :ne: Ponty [SS]
:Sweden: :ra: Junkerzam [Zig]
[/quote]

Supremo is a mad suicider so he has no chance.  I think if he rushes fetta or ponty they will have some issues while junker will prob just tome him easy.  I predict supremo to die first, after he suicide rushes and then someone else cleans him with a 80 food push.  I see fetta winning as long as supremo doesnt suicide him since he will get a lot of gold and the likely 3 way with ponty fetta and junker will result in teaming junker and then fetta batting ponty to oblivion.

:Germany: :ra: Slythe [BM]
:Sweden: :orc: Fetta_ook [Inc]
:Argentina: :ne: Supremo [FREE]

Slythe probably has the highest overall skill of these players in both micro and play, but he often makes strange moves and sometimes lets his temper get the best of him.  Fetta and Airenikus are both solid players as well, but I think fetta also has a temper and this will no doubt clash with slythe.  I can foresee fetta just going 100 food yolo mode on slythe mode saying "i dont care anymore" and then airenikus cleans up.  Whoever spawns by supremo gets a free tome

:Germany: :ne: HighTac [Rage]

:World: :orc: Betoon [Inc]
:Poland: :orc: dragao [FREE]

Classic game where Wrecktify is so far and beyond the favorite that there's no way anything else but 1v3 happens right??? Good thing wreck is basically manip immune and will just punish these peons with his almighty FFA playing skills.  Even with team he will outmaneuver these guys to an easy victory IMO

:ES: M3

:Finland: :ne: Aarnikratti [Rage]
:Lithuania: :hu: EvilPeanut [BM]
:USA: :orc: IWANTWC4 [Inc]
:USA: :ne: ludakatapro [FREE]

EvilPeanut rushed me out on this map during TBR and then proceeded to play horrible vs obsandlearn.  I predict he and aarni both rushing out the others and then aarni taking a pretty straightforward win with superior FFA play.

:FM: M4

:Denmark: :hu: zTsoso [Rage]
:Russia: :ne: Dinamo [BM]
:Germany: :orc: MrSweets [Inc]
:Poland: :ne: Gradient [FREE]

This is basically the same story as Wreck's game except opponent are at least decent.  Either this game is done in 20 minutes, or its a 2 hour manip fest (esp if game has soso/dinamo/gradi which I expect it will).  Either way, I dont think these guys can kill soso and he will win as long as he doesnt get overly mad and just suicide.

:MS: M5
:USA: :ra: Seksi [CoR]
:USA: :ra: Eshan [Zig]
:Germany: :ra: SosoHasRedHair [SS]
:Germany: :hu: QQs [Ena]

If this game was played 2 years ago, everyone would predict seksi to steamroll, so the fact that everyone seems to be picking Eshan now is even more convincing that seksi will in fact be the victor assuming hes in shape.  I see seksi pulling off a cunning victory, or eshan winning due to shave suiciding into seksi too much while eshan pulls of hidden army somewhere.  I think QQs is a solid player, but will either get crushed by seksi early game or will get smacked around in a 3-way.  Regardless, should be a great game as long as no one plays stupid (which is definitely possible here)

:TL: M6
:Canada: :ne: Renaud [CoR]
:Hungaria: :ud: Tyrant [Zig]
:France: :ne: Ponty [SS]
:Russia: :ud: Spielmann [Ena]

Renaud has probably played less then 10 FFA games in the past two years and yet when he does play he usually looks half way decent and does have some recent victories.  If he doesnt get rushed out my tyrant I think he has a decent shot, and Ponty will be easy to team up with vs tyrant in this game so I think Renaud will find a way to 20 chim his way to victory in the end

:ES: M7
:Germany: :orc: Fail.Life [CoR]
:USA: :ne: Mog [Zig]
:Switzerland: :hu: Noexxx [SS]
:Australia: :orc: SweeT [Ena]

Wreck, soso, and noe can't all possibly win 1v3 can they???  In all seriousness though, I think noe will get teamed here (as he should) but the quality of opponents will just be too much for him to steamroll.  Mog is a great overall player as well, and a game like this should allow him to fly under the radar and get a big macro advantage over everyone else.  I think he wil pull it off in the end

:FM: M8
:Peru: :hu: Zs.Supercumulo [CoR]
:Sweden: :ra: Junkerzam [Zig]
:USA: :ra: AlienWareOwnZ [SS]
:Germany: :ne: Trunks [Ena]

Everyone always picked trunks and he never wins.  I think hes a monster of a micro player, but that may not help him in a game against 3 veteran players here.  I actually think that somehow junkerzam always manages to be the "second best player" in every match and it allows him to put himself in a hugely advantageous position because he really is a great player and I think this game will be a perfect example of this.  I expect absolute chaos here, except when everyone else is broke junker will have about 20k since they will all forget about him

Semi final
:Russia::ne: Dinamo
:Australia::ne: Sweet
:Denmark::ud: Tleilaxu
:Germany::ra: SosoHasRedHair

Honestly, I think this will be a pretty easy victory for Sweet.  Dinamo is a solid player but he's probably the worst here and I dont see him having much of a chance unless other people just play flat out badly.  Laxu has become a force of a player, but with him and shave in the same game its 100% chance for an epic suicide.  If Sweet simply doesnt chat in this game, he will go unnoticed because everyone else will be spamming manip in caps, and he can hoard upwards of 100k and can build a 500 tower base and just building kill everyone with bats and BM
