General Discussion / Re: FFArena

I could write an essay about why it is sadly not working well :(

I tried to help Yosh fix it in November, I thought it would be all good but issues are still there.

1- The map pool on which I insisted sooo much for years to preserve activity is too messed up (too many custom maps, not viewable on bnet). I remember when Seksi or Hayder made riots to make me change my mind and let the community chose the map pool : you see what would have happened!

2- There is not an easy place to see game names (here / playffa.net before)

3- admin team did not get along at the start of the project (not blaming anyone here)

4- there is no ladder, the stats registration is not on the same system I used to make. Mine was not perfect but worked quite fine

5- Yosh is busy with w3arena, no spare time to spend on ffarena. playffa was time consuming so I understand

6- Bots are not monitored and can stay down for a while before anyone noticing

7- Bots are not linked to as many servers as I used to link them

8- No community place for players to meet

9- No events organized (playffa cup / weekly events)

10- No streaming (Seksi among others for example used to gather a lot of attention for playffa bots by streaming live -> viewers thought it was fun -> where can I play?

Those are the major flaws.

Sometimes I think "eh that's  sad, I should fix it". But it would be a lot of work that I could not do alone. W3arena owns the bots now. The players here do not seems to miss it that much (symposium games and skype groups solve the lack of bot activity) except maybe Seksi/Qwest who loved the ladder.

The russians speakers who were representing 40% of the players now play on a russian hosted garena bot (probably on rubattle.net too). They have a ladder of some sort. Qwest posted the link once. It would be a rude competitor to the installment of a new "playffa type" project. That is what I told Qwest in November when we discussed the matter.

Cumulo on top of the world after his FML win.  ;)
Ugri, unfortunately most of those Cups were on Saturdays... and I couldn't play! I did make it to one ISFF Cup Final (with Lightweight, Duck, some other undead), but lost that one.  Maybe you're right.  Hopefully FFArena ladder can be successful as PlayFFA ladder was.

No I mean you never won FML which is Cup style with elimination games, while you won most of the ladder season type events (fml ladder, playffa seasons). You perform best in long term grinding event than in decisive games such as a fml semifinal or final.

I doubt anybody can beat you in the FFA Symposium inhouse league if you play it.

The playFFA seasons you didnt win, you barely played them...

league type is really Seksi's style.

He sucks at Cup's types though :)

edit before i get flamed : it is like in poker, some are great cash game players (league type) but suck at tournament style poker (cup style)

unfortunately for ugrilanien, it will not be an all european final as I will advance and ultimately secure the final spot in the FML finals. I have trained hard recently and have made the switch to  :orc: in FFA. I canot lose. i have studied nline and fetta ooks in particular game with orc, and know the secret to their success. SO i'd just like to take this time to thank FML in advance for hosting this tournament and giving me the opportunity to play in the grand final and participate in such a prestigious event.

you're sweet :)
