Title: Your favorite top5 FFA Players of all time!
Post by: Lightweight! on November 02, 2011, 03:46:06 pm
Yo guys, im interested about to know what your favorite top 5 FFA players of all time are. I would like to have five names and for every name a short explanation why he is your favorite.

TOP 5;
1. Invincible_Rice (:orc:) > dominated ladder on all realms for a big term and made berserks gold.
2. F-L-Y (:ne: or  :ud:) > brought his solo micro into ffa and dominated azeroth.
3. Darknesscalls (:orc:) > how to beat this guy without teaming?
4. xoz_magadansky & 4k.Fury (:ud:) > came from solo to ffa to show how undead should be played.
5. Nline (:orc:) > he surprised us with his innovative orc gamestyle and was first to play alchi first with orc.

Huh? To almost every explanation.

And I have not seen Maga or Fury do anything that you couldn't have learned from fly years before. Maga first started playing custom games (like FML) and had to start playing like fly because he was losing games he shouldn't have...

I'll take uniqueness over skilled cheese any time.

1. Rice pre-cheese era. TC DR PL. A little more cheesy with FS SH TC but still. His 2 food HHs were like 5 food chims, each.

2. LordOblivion_kz. WN POTM. Probably the most fundamental NE player since the beginning of time.

3. BobasVett. DK DR PL. Unique playstyle unlike 2342389572354 of the typical (myself included) tri-cheese abusers.

4. Marn. No need to elaborate on this one.

5. Fly. He cheesed, but at least he played Random.

In terms of skilled cheese, it's basically interchangable, and everyone on top has about same skill, and wins/loses depending on how hard they get teamed or simply luck.

1 - UD. Maga, PencilWarrior, KingofKirblar, Killer.dk, Bobas or FinalFantasy

2 - Orc. DasElend, Darkness/SS, Zench, Nline, Rice, Fluff.head, PeaceDoorBall

3 - NE. Lost, Nooblex, XHunters, probably a few others  from way back I forget by now

4 - RND. Fly, Rabbit, Eshan, XX, Target probably a few others  from way back I forget by now

Not listing HU for obvious reasons.

Boobles.

i will only name players who are not playing (currently) anymore.

1. Plush:

i only saw one game by him live, but that was enough. he is orignally orc i
guess, but he were owning everyone with elf in that one. saw a couple of reps by
him  and he played outstanding in every single on of them.

2.  Ntropy:

a absolute term in the way of style in these busy times ;-). His come-from-behind
     wins are classics.

3.  f-l-y:

as undead mostly :). his hit and run / overall game-mechanics understanding is just
as blast to watch. like his emo-style aswell :P.

4. lost.ancient/ nooblex:

elfish twins in the way of
perfecting a strategy, which they been using exclusively. their bases/
buildorders/ micro are flawless most of the time.

5.  XX:

master of wyrm-caster/ necrowagon /macro and keeping it straight with his p4k-
    attitude ( lol at him playing in fml ladder-season 1, 11 games/ 10 losses / 1 win (
    which he never posted)

honorable mention: Nline

2.  Ntropy:

a absolute term in the way of style in these busy times ;-). His come-from-behind
     wins are classics.
His come-from-behind wins vs me were farm hiding until I disconnected. I still haven't forgiven him for doing that twice.

1. plush - ork
2. F-L-Y - random
3. Lost.Ancient - night elf
4. Wrecktify - human
5. tegraT - random (I liked his ladder games more than FML games)
6. XX - undead, though entirely for play style not race use

I am voting based on how fun replay was to watch for me
1) Plush what a genius srsly
2) XX was so fun to watch him owning human/orc with his crazy micro and heroes something ud doesnt always do
3) Lost.ancient best elf micro ever
4) Nooblex what a macro monster. No one imo macroed better. It is difficult to hoard and not get teamed or hoard and win vs teaming cos one knows the race so well uses heros so well and has such a genius base
5) fly who might disagree with 3 and 4. amazing micro and i remember the great use of dark ritual to own other ppls hero lvls. maga should learn from that. however i also remember snamuh owning the shit out of him cos snamuh was a genius
that brings me to bobas vett who was also amazing for his hero combo and micro eg beating lel in fights and other great orcs. srsly ud you need to wagon+frostdestro more.

however honorable mention for Target mk pala I remember one game where he was only 50 with gyros and hardly lost gyros was on silverpine vs neo geo?? or some elfs was amazing-anyone got that one??, Under.Sta.
Anyone got oblivion_kz replays???

This may be controversial but based on the games I've played with him, LordOblivion_KZ is terrible. Like really terrible.
Title: Re: Your favorite top5 FFA Players of all time!

He wasn't outstanding, not comparing to target, xx or fly or lost, but he was unique and one of the first to pave the way. I'd say he was around nooblex's skill level, maybe a little lower.

seeing as i've never played FFA i purely judge upon my joy watching these people;

1)
DasElend - so offensive, refusing to manip, first FFA i ever watched was of him winning on market in a fast 3-way getting teamed and won against 2*100armies with his single. after that i became a fan.

2)
Nooblex - After watching that one game i searched the internet through for replays, and i really had a lot of fun watching him play. like some guy said above me, this guy was a good macro'er, and most importantly people knew that. So when they were in a game with him, they would be like "lol, blex probably has 10k by now", and by then he would probably have 15. so being known for macro'in, but still having more than decent micro and doing some great 100pushes. i liked

3)
Nightmare. or Nightmar3 - the undead guy that only played on bnet and went 1v1 - won, 1v1 -won, 1v1 - win game. i loved watching his insane micro and so aggressive playstyle.

4)
Invincible.Rice - this is where things will get tricky for me contra how you feel like it. Because i didn't know about this guy for months while watching through what i could find on the internet, so I got to know about the others first, but still this guy would run through opponents like they were butter. (But again, i had heard so great things about him before i ever watched a replay, that i was not as entertained as with some of the others)

5)
for the last spot i could not decide, so i will name a few that i think are definatly noteworthy; htrt (the chat, the micro), Maga (the micro, the micro), yane (the micro, perfect micro), f-l-y (the selfconfidence/selfassurance, the micro), Nline (the winning mentality), y.z. (the perfection - check 2 years ago the spot he put his shop in on market EVERY SINGLE GAME)

sorry for wall of text

No way is he around Nooblex's skill since, you know, Nooblex is actually good.

I like players who can join skill and charisma.

I wont talk about Marn and Rice cause they stopped playing before I started so I wont pretend I know them just to appear cute.

Target is my n1
Plush / Fly come after
Lost / Maga then

Nooblex and Pencil were imo overrated. Of course they would own me any friday after a quick trip to the bathroom but obviously they benefit for their huge investment in making ffa popular : Nooblex with his famous comprehensive ffa guide, Pencil with being Lone TC for years.

actually, was there a tc after Pencil?  If so, who was it?
I remember him retiring, but as far as i can remember, he was always the lone TC (and a darn good one imo)

Agree that Nooblex was overrated (good, but not nearly at target/lost's level). Pencil was genuinely good though, though emotional.

My 5 Favorites:

PencilWarrior - One of the best undeads whose ever hit the FFA scene and he was a blast to watch and learn from. He helped me out a lot too when it came to my own gameplay.

F-L-Y - The best Random player in the history of WC3. Even solo players knew who he was and respected him. The guy was top notch with every single race he played. Truly remarkable!

Under.STa - His chat made him so much fun to watch. Everytime someone hit him, he would claim to suicide them. Very rarely did he actually do it, but on occasion, he definitely did. Great player too, very skilled.

HTRT - He was a human player who rarely used towers and won last season by pure brute force. He didn't like to sit around and let people come to him, he would much prefer to go after them and make the games more interesting for the spectators. Even if it hurt his chances, he just wanted to make the best damn games possible. And he did too.

Target - Target is a legend. He won two back to back FML seasons. I don't remember too much about him anymore, but I loved watching him play.

1. Fly - One of the most aggressive + well micro versed players I've had the privilege to play against. He's also the guy I looked up to (even though we clashed a few times while we were both in Lone. Once, it caused me to leave the clan, only to return shortly later)

2. Lost.Ancient - Another player with well versed micro. He uses a unique hero combo and always knows exactly which unit combo works against a particular army. His DR is quite brutal  :icon_mrgreen:

3. SS - Never played him, but obviously his hero combo inspired me to play what I play today.

4. Grandbulp - Some of you may not know him, he also went under "tchou-tchou" (not sure if he played before that), but when I was leveling FFA he was one of the top random FFA players. His micro rivaled that of Fly and he had decent manip skills as well. He's one of the few people I feared playing against

5. ZAKAZULU - He's one of my favorites just because his chat was so hilarious that it masked his terrible micro. ZULU POWER!

Lone more or less disbanded while Pencil was TC...

In no order I'd say

Target (human, mk/paladin)
Amazing sense and micro.  Best gyro micro I've ever seen

Lost (elf, warden/panda/dr)
Best hero/staff micro I've ever seen.
Didn't resort to Chippo and used Night Elf to its potential

Under.Sta (elf, dk, panda, forget)
Create micro, matured a lot from when he first entered the FFA scene to when he was playing in FML
Great use of standard Elf, made him deadly

Pencil (Undead, DL first)
The one that got me to love Undead FFA and ghoul/gargs
Awesome Undead air micro and brilliant use of Dreadlord

Maga (Undead, usually standard heroes but is good enough to go any combination)
Maga's army composition is why I rate him as one of the top undead to ever play FFA.  He makes the best out of all of undead's units

Plush (Orc)
"THAT WAS EASY!" (hope you get the reference)
Probably my favorite FFA player of all time

Invincible Rice (Orc)
Watching replays of him was why I started to play FFA (its not his fault that most of his opponents were noobs, but he was still the best of his time)

My comments to the other rankings..
Nooblex = mass chippo user, hoard+attack move...
Bobasvett = average micro/ffa sense.  Had anger issues in the game... no disrespect to Bobas but why would he be on any of your lists? Because someone used a non-standard hero combination and was subpar with it?
XX = same as Bobas...?
Fly... by the time I joined Lone he seemed to stop caring about the game, which was 2006-7? Then is attitude towards the game (seemed to not care about competition) takes him off of any of my lists

T_T i remember Plush's first fml game.  He tomed me like i was a green camp, then after rebuilding i simply couldn't believe that fly was losing to him so I refused to team plush

Plush was one of the most underrated ffa player before he joined fml

when was plush dominant? when i played him he was a decent orc, not top though. mind you i base players on the fights i have with them and he had decent unit control

duno about my top5, no order;

fly - only player to ever make me feel the other side of the spectrum of shitting on someone in a solo, what a wake up call was not expecting it at all. havent played him since unfortunately (1.21 ?)

pencil warrior - never did play him but how you mention fly and not pw anyway? they go hand in hand; in there prime i think they were top2 talent wise. only ffa player to actually influence my game play and people dont give him the props he deserves honestly

lost.ancient - im never afraid to solo anybody, call it being cocky but fuck them if they think they can take me out alone but the ONLY person i would think twice about soloing is lost, absolute merciless beast

daselend - he hasnt retired yet so hes not going to get the recongition he deserves until he does but skillwise hes better then any other orc

htrt - just a shame i never got a chance to play a real game vs him in ffa. very smart player and the best solo partner i ever had

honourable mentions :
nooblex - todays elfs NEED to mimic his style he set the standard for modern day elf play and it worked, he went undefeated racking up 100+ pts in one season i believe
wrecktify - terribly rusty right now it seems not alot of players have both the ffa smart and skill ratio he does
yz - undershadowed by the dominant orcs of his time and for some reason doesn't perform too well during the season
nline - legacy orc
yane - raw skill, learned the game type as quick as htrt (very fast) but wasted potential imo
maga - the last surviving undead?

I think what made it worse/better was that he wasn't too much of a FFA player either.  He just came in, kicked our ass, then left.

So I'll give mine
1) Sky_FireIce - he was always on about the jews, I liked that. He also won the first FML season.
2) LeL - god damn that base was annoying to fight.
3) Nline - I think I beat him once or twice but he beat me more times than that. He also showed me a picture of him riding a pony.
4) ntropy - he's terrible but in a charming way
5) Turbo.LT - He hoards with every race no matter what
6) Target - His micro is good and he's in general just an excellent player.

From Azeroth I guess I like Eshan. I'm not sure why anyone says Lost.Ancient, I've met him 4 times on ladder, beat him 3 times (and it wasn't hard to do so) and once he suicided me because he knew it was me giving the win to JanKen (LONE PRETEAMING).

Hmm maybe this was very early on and his micro improved as time went on? Or perhaps he was weak vs human...

Either way, he was a very strong player, and good knowledge on the elf class. He's now a pro SC2 player

By race:

1. Fly  - best elf ever, he could play every race but he was never a randomer, he was elf, and more recently UD

2. Target. (human)

3. Daselend (orc)

4. Pencil (how can you say he wasn't good? he was the best...).

5. Elsha-of-Iel (random)

Thoughts on others:

Plush was amazing, but never knew how to handle manip. Fly is the reason I played FFA when I saw his replays when him and pencil were rank 1 and 2 at like level 52 or something.

grandbulp/tchou-tchou/other names he had, he was good but definitely not top 10...

Lost was a beast with elf, unique combo that I still use in RT. Strangely unbeatable in battle...he improved from average in like '05 to really good in '07 to just beastly in '08+

Currently I enjoy HTRT

PS its sad how many players are missing from this, so many guys I faced over the years that I cant even remember right now. Thankfully we have flameseekers replays...keeps them alive.

i dunno why cheaters should be even mentioned,
just like lel... i've heard he hacked too

hackers do not deserve any respect

actually i have the most respect for undead players (maga, fly, pencil, ugri,...) because undead is the hardest to play in ffa and these players like a challenge...

now elf is the least used race =(

Don't know if much of you remember him, but KoD-Elemental is now a pro league of legends player... probably one of the most known for American players (besides hotshotgg). He plays under Elementz

Yeah... but now hes making money playing a video game travelling around the world.

And the League of Legends (and other games I'm sure) community is really big on watching streams of the top players... so Elementz streams himself playing and gets paid for the time he plays because the team sells advertisement space, so its almost a full time job!

All I rememeber about elemental's FFA skillz is he at one point or another beat everyone laddering at the time except fly. No matter what he did, he could not beat fly. There was a game on TM where he had fly down to just DK while he had like 60 food but one building left...fly bought sappers with his very last gold, then suicided his DK while the sappers snuck in for the building kill.

Quakeguy was a beast. No panda, no hoarding, mass dotts, mass mgs, and he had some of the best DH/archer creeping I had ever seen (he was the first guy to do the staff of preservation/teleport combo to heal his DH on the go). Even though he never changed his strat in the games where he needed too, he's still one of my favorites.

Yeah, I can't remember either, and I can't find it (or anything else) since I've lost all of my old replays. Walking, when was this!

I was playing Rift but my subs expiring and I'm done gaming for a bit. I'll hang around here and, I dunno, comment etc when I can.

i-never-smile needs a mention. No one would find a game after 3am EST without the insomniac himself.

Mr. Sparkle and sun-jammer were regulars when I was doing bnet ladder as well. I recently saw a rep where Sparkle 1) Hoarded and 2) Built gryphons which were unprecedented for him back in the day.

And how about God-of-demons? I don't think anybody got trolled harder or more often than this guy so he's gotta be a "favorite" for something, right?

Ill stick with current players:

Magadansky:  Hes always gonna lose cause hes like Nazi Germany.  Gets too big then gets teamed.  Poor nazis.  And maga.  Also his english is good enough that I enjoy his chat.

Daseland:  Same as maga, except hes orc so he can actually abuse his way to a win.

Rebuke:  The only FFAer who reminds me of me, only hes better at micro than I ever was.  Though I think im better at FFA sense or whatever you fags call it now.

L77/Hydro/Sparkle:  I enjoy watching the old school players play.  We dont always win but its like nostalgia city.

Ok ill go with retired players too:  Snamuh/Rebbats - OK I might be biased towards human players.   Snamuh totally stole my no-AM-style.  Then made it better by being good.  I actually hate rebbats.  He falls into the Eshan/Darkness/Rebuke/etc category of players that do stuff that makes absolutely no sense and annoy me to play against.  But hes good like the above (well, not eshan.  Hes gay and bad.) But I still like him a player.

My top 5 in current FML:

1. Q-veta - non standard heroes + perfect macro decent micro
2. Lightweight - naga ftw, great micro, decent macro
3. Ugri - anti-cheese, UD, just all around nice guy
4. Johny-boi - my love, alch, now if only he didn't play boring HU....
5. DUCK - semi-cheese, but I love his style (16 fiends lololol)

Honorable mentions:
1. Human* - when he goes non cheese
2. Slythe - when he goes non cheese
3. Renaud - dude knows how to play underdog
4. Persuade - when he doesn't cheese
5. Sparkle - only guy i'm ok with cheesing.
6. Darkermirror - NE FTW

Dishonorable mentions (mostly perfect micro, terrible macro, with a few exceptions like Eshan who is decent at both and wreck who is awful at both, at least in this season)
1. Cheeseorcs Dase, Darkness, YZ, PBM
2. Cheeseud Maga, Walking
3. CheeseHU l77, Rain, W8man
4. Cheeseallaround Eshan, Killyoself
5. Nerdragers bobby, wrecktify, rabbit
6. Whyisheevenplayingffa Starshaped

No opinion:
1. Red7
2. Steppin
3. Kruppe
4. Paterique
5. QHKane
6. Unholydreadlord

I don't think I missed anyone.

Battle.suck - was AWESOME last season i saw him!
Holger danske- this guy was insane! Only mass towers without army and single Palla, towerrushed creeps!
Lost.Ancient - did't understand how good he was at first
Quakeguy - very unorthodox elf entertaining!

1. f-l-y - He was never too big into FML, but I've lost more games to him than anyone. Even though he's on a lot of lists, I think he's still underrated.

2. Rice - He's really what got me into FFA in the first place.

3. Lost_Ancient - Very good and fun to watch and to play with.

4. DasElend - Amazing player just gets himself teamed too much

5. Yane - Probably not as good overall as maga, but I saw him pull some stuff off with UD that I'd never seen before.

He wasn't outstanding, not comparing to target, xx or fly or lost, but he was unique and one of the first to pave the way. I'd say he was around nooblex's skill level, maybe a little lower.

Toodles

Not trying to defend myself here, but oblivion was really terrible. 2 mines, bad hero combo, poor macro, abysmal micro. When he came back for a little bit he got absolutely shit on by anyone decent.

Not trying to insult anyone here, but you were just a scrub losing games on Lordaeron when Obliv was doing hidden tree ports on Rice.

Toodles.

P.S. The question was "favorite" players, not "best" players. I don't vote for cheesing scrubs who go same cheese combo every game.

PSoodles.

1. Plush. Most imba player I have ever had the (dis)pleasure to face. Near perfect play just about every game, his only weakness was that he didn't manip much (which just adds to respect).

2. htrt. Defines aggressive human play and master of the 3-way.

3. Lost.Ancient. His hero combo and micro style is incredible to watch, and makes chippo-less elf look seriously imba. The only other elf I have found as fun to watch is misc- (there is an amazing replay where he out-wardens Lost!), and there are unfortunately much fewer replays of his around.

4. Yane. Wasn't around for that long, but his influence was massive. The most innovative undead player for a long time, his use of stone form gargs and "wyrm-tank" was incredible. His orc was also the second scariest thing I have faced, following Plush.

5. NtropY. Buttsex? The only player that can win consistently from having lowest heroes, least gold and worst (near zero) micro. Fantastic ffa sense and deceptively good macro, he is the master of winning games he shouldn't.

Honourable mentions to Maga, Wreck, Rice, Battle.Suck, Q-Veta, Nline, f-l-y, Nooblex, Target and rebbatS.

Plush - he wasn't all that active when I was most active in 1.18 and 1.21 but one of the few players who I actually watched replays of he was a beast.

Lost.Ancient - Matched him more then any other player on azeroth ladder and only beat him once through using my shady ass tactics that caused me to be hated.  I learned more from lost then any other player every game with him was amazing even if losing.

Bulp - Who played on the account Crasse during most of my time facing off with him, he ranks to me right behind lost during my most active phase, in what I feel was his rightful place a very skilled player all around.

AlienwareOwnz - Before I knew Sergio all that well, he was an extremely fun random player to watch and he's the reason that I started playing random in the first place.  Watching him fight head to head with any race against a top player with their main race was always a blast.  Highly underrated for someone who was rank 1 FFA, RT, and even top 10 solo multiple times with random.

Wrecktify - There are certain people you watch play and you just don't understand why they win so often or do little things you would never think of in order to win a game, and that player is wrecktify.  The man's a genius even if you can't see it.

Honorable mentions - Rebbats, Sparkle (how he won with human ground I have no idea), Yane, DasE, Nline, HTRT, Renaud, nooblex (his micro is underrated just cause he hoards and chippos a lot makes you underestimate him but hes actually all around very skilled)

Stumbled upon FML again after having been away from FFA for years and years, but it's really nice to see the community is still active and reading this thread brought up many memories :)

Not sure if anyone remembers me but I played under the nicks Indense and Farmerjoe years back, no clue which season (but around patch 1.22). Played mostly night elf when things got heated, but random when climbing the ladder (bnet). Always ground based armies as NE; MG/dryad/dotts often with dh/panda/potm but sometimes some DR/alch fun as well.

Don't really have any favorite player in the traditional sense (of watching/being a fan) but I'll list a few of my favorite players that I played against :p

DasElend
Nline
Battle.Suck
DCo]PiZz.
y.zenchenko
Pbl66a
fate.is.noob
rebbatS
Renaud
king.wreckify

If anyone reads this then I just wanna say thanks for a good time and maybe we'll play in the future :)

So here I am, bored one day and decided on a whim to check out the ol FFA sites I used to browse when I was much younger... and to my utter and complete delighted surprise, I find that someone mentions me.

V here, formerly known as Elsha-of-IEL (hilariously enough, the IEL website is still around on angelfire).  I used a stupid amount of names back then, but Elsha was the one I was most known by. RippinKittin, instantdecay, god, what else did I use back then... haha.

Yes I know, necro bumping this thread, but is any of the old school players still around at all?

Here's my list of notable players, completely off the top of my head in no particular order. I know for a fact I'm forgetting some fantastic players and friends.

Fly
Unholydreadlord/Hydro
Lightweight
Eshan/Daselend (I think that was both you? Memory's fuzzy)
Maga
Y.zen
BattleSuck
Rebbats
Renaud
Wreck
Marko (that Marko luck)
Shadowsou1 (<3<3 taught me how to ground orc!)
Inferno Rice (taught me how to FFA back in the day)
WarMachine
Pencil
Sparkle
Blex
Nline
Rebbats
Lost
Bobas
Marn
SX-Frost

I can't think of anyone else, but I know you are all out there. Thanks for all the great times. Maybe I'll give FFA another go if it's still going strong...

Nline, maga and Lightweight are also still around but frankly they did not apply for s20 yet.

My favorites:

5. XX: The dude did awesome things and had sick timing attacks.
4. Lost: I could never beat this guy in a FFA.  And you know someone's good when they go on to Starcraft and dabble in the pro scene for a while.
3. Renaud: Awesome person, hilarious manip (and chat in general) in games, and solid player.
2. Eshan/DarkMessiah: Good at all races, in all phases of the game, in all aspects of the game.
1. X[hunters]: He taught me a lot of things, made me better at FFA, Solo--and life.  Hope he's still out there somewhere.  Good dude.

Well I posted mine back in 2011 but to repeat cause i just saw that ELSHA IS BACK TOO! I'm back this season and it seems a lot of good old players are too. Should be fun

Thankfully we have flameseekers replays...keeps them alive."

No offense to other great players not mentioned like maga, plush, SS, lost, so many more

Heres mine based on the epic battles we had vs eachother
1. Rice
2. killer.Dk
3. Pencil
4. fly ( we had a serious rivalry that will never be matched)
5. Battle.suck (my favorite arrange team partner)

The players who I enjoy watching play the most are:

-Htrt
-LW
-Yaws
-That one Korean elf who played ~250 games on ladder, even though I only saw like 5 games.
-GW

I don't really enjoy watching Undead or Orc players in the slightest, due to the monotonous type of play and the fact that manip-oriented players are often gravitated toward them (though there are obviously various exceptions).

lol penciwarrior, except being lone headadmin, in term of skill he was average imo. All of those thinking differently should watch his replays now and compare them to magadansky's.

Brainman Undead would be better than pencilwarrior

Post by: Seksi on November 12, 2014, 02:06:40 am
in no order:

DarknessCalls - One of the scariest Orcs - the most dominant player to play DR/TC/SH overall.  I always enjoyed playing vs him because you had to play your A game and would be tested thoroughly.  Today's youth don't understand how imbalanced DR TC SH is.

Brain.Man - He played with a unique style and if nothing else, one of the very best random players to ever play.  He could be frustrating to play against but would provide a challenge and knew how to fight well.

y.z - Another fearsome Orc.  No one played a better BM/TC/SH mid game Orc, in my opinion.  He handled his 80 food army almost flawlessly.

Magadansky - The vampire champion, whom I had a fierce rivalry with.  We always seemed to fight early and often in all of our games.  He had the best understanding of FML games - was pro at playing 3 ways, being patient and winning in those circumstances that I often misplayed.  One of the only other Undeads I respected as much as my own Undead (with respects to Yane).

Battle.Suck - This guy was funny and awesome.  He would be relentless in his attacks even if they were not fully thought out.  He understood how to mix Human armies and play extremely aggressive.  While most humans would play more standard mixes he would you with a multitude of casters, breakers, tanks and gyros that would apply pressure like no other human.  While not the best human ever, he had the micro and macro plus a relentlessness about him that made me a fan of his game.

Few others I will mention (I went old school with my list) - htrt, wrecktify, persuade, renaud, lightweight.  These are guys I respected and enjoyed playing against.  Many others I left out including most of the new blood.  Recently I've battled with Nooblex and Elsha which brought back some nostalgic feelings =)

When f-l-y and pencil played, I was a solo player just learning FFA.  I never played a real game against pencil and maybe only one of two against Lost.  I played a good amount against f-l-y but in later times.

One more mention @ Marn.  Lol I played one game vs him on Divide and Conquer and he was awesome - huge 100 food armies of fiend/abom/dest/banshees.  I wasn't as good but he was dominant in those times.  This was, of course before he went to prison for luring an underaged girl through World of Warcraft.

There was another guy involved, too--I think his plea was different and maybe his sentencing.  His name had the word "duck" in it--though definitely not plzleaveduck, that's someone entirely different.

The other guy was the ride, and he turned her to the police station once he realized she was under-aged (and I think he was released once the police figured he din't know she was under-age when he offered to give be the ride)

I find this subject confusing - I think im just supposed to list people I enjoyed watching or playing against maybe?  Or people who made a big impression.  I dunno.

Honorary Mention:  SteppinRazor - one day, before the release of WC4, he will reach top tier.  In the meantime he'll be that guy who always has the flash of brilliance to win a game he shouldnt.  I also blame him for not surviving against Maga long enough for me to dispatch of that dumbass Humanstar in the Season-whatever finals.

5) Battle.Suck - One of the few oldschoolers I think would translate to current FFA pretty well.  I always modeled myself after him and his willingness to fight, fight and fight some more.

4) FinalFantasyIV - One of the few players who could fight Pencil and Rice on level terms.  I could crush all three of the above easy now, but in terms of 'those days' he was my favorite from then.

3) Daseland - Only orc ive ever faced that makes me thing "I have 0% chance of winning".  like all greats he had a meltdown and disappeared.

2) InvincilbleRice - Caveat: I dont think he would last 10 minutes in an FFA nowadays, but he was definitely my motivation when I first started playing FFA.  He dominated like no one else, and he did it with a Far Seer.  He popularized FFA, and we should all be grateful for that!

1) Magadansky - the batman to my joker, the dracula to my.... hugh jackman. the only worthy opponent!  until he started sucking, then i lost all my drive.  hopefully he doesnt suck now or else ill go back to hearthstone.

1) Wrecktify - for pretending he could micro with the best players and getting over confident (cocky) messaging to obs in the season 18 finals that Mog won.  Also for creating a smurf to win a season so he wouldn't be teamed based on name.

Also for being n00b in Hearthstone.   Evil Penguin status.

;D)

To be fair, you should actually blame duck for not showing and Worpex for allowing a noob like me to sub in the FINALS

The guys I put down for my favorites all belong there, but a notch below rebbatS.  That guy beat me 100% of the time, won a lot of different sized maps and different sized games, and was just all-around a tough guy to fight.  Not much chat (if any), just a lot of beatdown.

Plush was amazing, but never knew how to handle manip. Fly is the reason I played FFA when I saw his replays when him and pencil were rank 1 and 2 at like level 52 or something.

grandbulp/tchou-tchou/other names he had, he was good but definitely not top 10...

Ha, I agree with your criticism. From what I remember about FFA, my approach was more mathematical than anything. Depending on the race and player, I was mostly about getting a feel for how much money would be needed to win a 1v1 against most players or finish off someone in a three way to make it a 1v1. When facing a player such as yourself, I hoped for and did my best to help ensure the more typical split 1v1s during that time would happen and didn't want anything to do with a three-way requiring greater use of chat and playing equalizer. I played more like a mash-up of a fencer and an economist and three-ways were much more chaotic by comparison, like being at the final table in poker. If there were a replay to show all of it, this would be most evident in the S4 finals where I played rather clueless once Fly quickly eliminated Target, and managed to help get myself teamed 'til near-death despite perhaps being the most disadvantaged player at that point in the game.

Nooblex gave me an incredible amount of trouble. Other than games against Lost where he quickly reached 6-5-5, NE vs Orc was about money more than anything else for me and more so than any other match-up. Nooblex was especially difficult because he would sacrifice creeping speed in favor of expoing more quickly and he always had 5-10k more at a minimum than I would presume as a result. Once I switched to a more efficient style of Orc (going BM with mirror image over FS or TC first, more heavily emphasizing speed of expanding, and opting to skip teching taurens entirely when there were no other Orcs in the game), Nooblex had stopped playing. I never got to try to out economy the economic master, but it did help me avoid the more timing intensive fights against Lost if only by being able to fast 100 him out of ladder games.

I probably lost to Bulp on ladder more than anyone else though. In games, he chatted like someone beneath his skill level and while this helped him be one of the best pure ladder players in FFA when I was playing, it didn't translate all that well to non-ladder FFAs. Like me, he was more used to winning and winning rather easily in a specific way and as a result, he didn't fully adapt to tournament play.

Lol I actually tried last summer shortly after the bot went up and it was pretty ugly. It would've taken a couple months to really start getting back into it. I wouldn't get to practice the style of Orc required in FML games in the mid-game intensive bot games. It was also very discouraging to see that 2-2.5 hour long 4 person FFAs were now the shortest games in tournament play.

I ended up to switching to NE because they were more up my alley for bot games and I hoped to take advantage of the more conservative play of the current FFA players with the NE's awesome tower busting. Then players like Seksi and Maga microed in circles around me a few times and whatever it was that motivated me to watch replays and play FFAs for 25+ hours a week as a teenager wasn't there anymore. Instead of rededicating myself in the face of a clear example that I wasn't playing as well as I could, I opted to quit again.

(On a side note, other than getting T2 rifle/caster rushed as Orc in FFA, coming back and playing against Maga as NE without a KoTG is about the most helpless I've ever felt as an FFA player in a situation that didn't involve teaming or a suicider.)

Anyway, I've come to understand that video games offer a great deal of opportunity for heavily introverted people like myself to sink their teeth into certain expertise and detail oriented skills (and at a fast pace at that), but I didn't really get to take advantage of those skills in a meaningful way until I stopped playing video games. So I'm afraid I won't be coming back, but I'm happy to check in and see what's been happening in FFA. Around the time I quit the first time, it was cool seeing Renaud transform from a more middling FFAer to a real wildcard with creative and aggressive strategies, and when I tried making a comeback, it was even cooler to see he had become both skilled and rounded as a player.

Oh, and my account during my attempted comeback was Mostly.Harmless, Mostly_Harmless, or some other very similar variant of those two.

I honestly cannot believe it took me years to find out that this forum existed. I still remember using Slack FFA Replays to post my stuff (was it this name again? Can't remember)

Well my memory is atrocious so please don't be mad at me if you're not in the list >_<

A few notable in a completely unordered list:

X[Hunters]: The guy who got me into FFA's to begin with. Great guy.

PencilWarrior: One of the best and most well mannered players I have ever met. Gargles Fan <3

EbonyGoddess: Listed here because he was a royal pain in the ass but in the end was a really nice guy. How I hated playing with him tho.

f-l-y: Also one of the best and most well mannered players I have met. God how I hated his panda tho.

Rice: Pure WC3 orc skillz. I still remember my first encounter with him vividly. At that point I used to have friends over my house to watch me play (they found FFA quite exciting to watch). It was on Twilight Ruins with some other 2 people I don't remember. I beat up my guy quite quickly and moved on to attack Rice. I wasn't aware that the battle with Rice and the other guy had extended itself and therefore it turned (at first without my knowledge) into a 2x1.

Rice destroyed the other guy quickly afterwards and we proceeded to have an 1x1 with me having quite a gold advantadge due to his extended battle with the other guy.  I managed to beat Rice after some long battles but my gold advantage beat him more than anything. I remember my friends who were watching telling me "well that game was easy" and I knew it had not been. This guy was actually really really good and had not been for the gold I would be in serious trouble. So good that he ruled over the ladder for months after he got the hang of FFA, leaving me on that period relegated to a distance second place (ugh, damn you Rice).

Zakazulu: My personal nemesis, not because he was good (he was a one trick pony) but because it was sooo much fun to be in a game with him because when he was losing, he started blurting the most nonsensical curse words on the book, with letters all inverted, like someone was just banging curse words furiously on the keyboard.

I remember a game with him, PencilWarrior, EbonyGoddess. Ebony towered up and tried to hoard, as usual, so me and Pencil went after him while Zaka sat back and built his hippochims just waiting. After killing off Ebony, Pencil was debilitated and decided to leave, leaving me with no money, little army against Zaka with hippochims to spare in a small map. I attacked an expansion with all I had and as he was porting over to fight, I D&D the bulk of his base while he was busy fighting, leaving him crippled to rebuild. At the end of the game I only had the lich vs his beastmaster and managed to pull off a win after hours of back and forth (and cursing from him, obviously).

Honorable mentions: UnholyDreadlord, Wrecktify, rebbatS, Marn, and so many others <3

Damn I miss those days.

Lol FFVI - did you play under FFX?

I'm considered old school....but you're so old school that you basically retired just after people like me even started. Doubt you even remember me. You are one of the original FFAers, hope you make a comeback!!!

In no particular order based on who I saw play.

1) HTRT - Extremely versatile and flexible FFA player who thrived on aggression. As mentioned by many, his game made to be amongst the most fun to watch because he not only had great Macro, but it was combined with incredible micro and gamesense. His fighting ability was incredible and he always forced the action and put pressure on players, even if it didnt suit the overall end-game. Most likely the most fun player to watch during his time.

2) Under.sTa - #1 Ranked solo player on azeroth with an incredible win % turned FFA pro, mainly played elf with a pro demon hunter but could play almost any race. He had a very good understanding of macro and timing, but showed much of the same aggression as HTRT did but with more restraint and an emphasis on manip. He was the total package, and most games it was almost unfair due to his individual skill - he was always a target for getting teamed in the mid game.

3) Magadansky - Honestly the most consistent player of our generation. Multiple FML championships, even more finals appearances - stable figure in the scene and had a long-time love for the gametype that never seemed to waver. His solo influence shows in his advance micro, but what separated him was his game sense. The ability to mix manip and timing attacks to his advantage won him so many games, along with the fact that he didn't need an incredible amount of resources to win each game because he won almost every fight. The true total package.

4) Wrecktify - Probably the most skilled human I've ever seen and 2nd only to Maga in terms of all-around skill in terms of fighting, macro, manip, and game sense. Wrecktify solidified himself as one of the very few human FFA players to hold their own at every stage of the game from early to late, due to his individual skill.

5) King Orcs - Although not all exactly the same skill across the baord, its pretty damn close. I was lucky enough to be active during a time where the # of high skilled orcs was absolutely stunning (I remember 1 FML playoffs match having 3 highly skilled orcs in 1 match - nobody could pick a winner). Plush, Nline, Yz, Daseland, Darkness, Lel. All incredible in terms of fighting, macro, and game sense and if even 1 was in the game, you knew it would be a god watch.

6) Eshan - Had to put this guy in, how can you not love being a spectator to the king of manip?

Honorable mentions:

- Fury - If he played more he'd be in my top 5, but he got teamed too much and i dont blame him for stopping. King of dual race.
- Blex - Unique style and powerful fighter, plus one hell of a dota player.
- Rebbats
- Q-Veta
- Renaud
- Lost
- Bobas
