Title: RRR - Redkeekee Round Reviews
Post by: Redkeekee on June 10, 2013, 08:10:07 pm
Hi all,
I wanted to try my hand at video analysis of games and I've decided to start a recurring round review cast the Monday after each round ends, discussing various elements of FFA and examples of them found in the round.  I intend to try to focus mostly on learning than on critiquing and want to pick a specific topic to zero in on each week.  I will include links to the casts in this thread and welcome your feedback on my analysis, please!

RRR official subsection of the FML YouTube Channel can be found here! (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9NsNsrtfUuGFkPyRG6T6EnpXvxBsmap2&feature=edit_ok)

RRR # 1 - Redkeekee's Round Review of Season 16 Round 1: Why did I get 5 points?

Redkeekee breaks down the 4th place finishes of round one - discussing what we can learn from our first-eliminated competitors and how they could have or could not have avoided their fate.

RRR # 2 - Redkeekee's Round Review of Season 16 Round 2: In Depth Analysis
Episode 2 (http://www.twitch.tv/ffamastersleague/b/422173460)
Redkeekee breaks down the decision making and gameplay of all players in the league during round 2.  In depth discussion surrounding positions, correct teaming, gold management and more.

RRR #3 - To chat or not to chat... that is the question!
Episode 3 (http://www.twitch.tv/ffamastersleague/c/2507407)
The mighty Renaud joins Redkeekee in discussion surrounding examples of chat and their effectiveness in the third round, along with some general comments on chat in FFA.

RRR Special #1: Talk-back with Magadansky on UD vs Tanks
Special 1 (http://www.twitch.tv/ffamastersleague/c/2555556)

Nice wrap-up of games :) Maybe next round spend an extra 10-20 seconds quickly describing what happened with the other 2 players that you did not focus your talk on.

Your pause and description points are good :) Enjoyable reviews etc.

Thanks FD - I agree, and I also would like to get a bit more detailed for future reviews when I have some more time to prepare. I should be able to make sure more players are covered once I've had an idea to think about for a week or two.

Any ideas on a central topic for next round?  (I know it's hard without seeing the matches ^_^)

Maga
Seksi
LW
RKK
Ugri

Would take off LW from the list (current one at least, he used to a good bit)

Not sure who else I'd add though.  I'm somewhat of a candidate to make it, but I don't play very much haha.  I'll think on it.  Maga Seksi top two though, pretty even on it imo.  Both use it ruthlessly some games, and don't use it at all others.

I think the best maniper ever was skyfire_ice , not sure about his FML games in S1 but in bnet he was a good user the private chat feature :D

Quote:

Skyfire_ice (Player 1) to Player 2 : omg player 3 is skyfireice!
Skyfire_ice (Player 1) to Player 3 : omg player 4 is skyfireice!
Skyfire_ice (Player 1) to Player 4 : omg player 2 is skyfireice!

just an example ^^

This is exactly what LW used to do and I find that hilarious.

I remember him PMing everyone saying "peace?" in the first 20 seconds

lw barely manips. He asks once for peace than teaches you a lesson for not listening.

rkk tries to manip but rage easily and talks badly to his opponents which is counterproductive

Hmm, that's true.  My list was more by most not best.  Will rethink (also RKK was less Mr. McRagey a few seasons ago =D)

for manipping u also need someone , who is willed getting manipped w/o backing it up with scout/thinking/ffa-experience/knowledge of the players. As annoying as manipulation sometimes is, the guys , who  trust it too easily are often to blame as much as the ones, who are using it.

from the current league-players iŽd say the following are the guys, who are using manips the most or the most effectively:

Humans7ar
Ugrilainen
Magadansky
DarkFlameMaster
Seksi
Lightweight

have an eye on Svedirko, j33. and FiRel)rAgOn

btw nice feature rkk. maybe sum up the most important things after every game
( maybe  in a flashy visual way ).
My suggestion for the next round: Maybe look out for key-situations to gain significant advantage or/and things needed to happen/ to do for a turning point, comeback.

rofl i have never manip....

yes for once i agree with humi, he is a pretty straight forward player who talks little and manips little.

he would counter manip though
ex : someone saying "humi killing me"
humi would say "lol you are fine"

Is that cut and paste from a game?  Because that's exactly what he seems to say every time haha =D

i am lucky being responsible for ugri and humi  finally havinge something in common again !

i disagree though ^^.
manips includes countermanips. also in a starting 1vs1, where you are winning, why would u start talking or manip. Also in a final 1vs1 talking is useless, although ppl sometimes even trying there to distract, fake or provoke. And now tell me please, that humi only reacts in a 3-way to manips by others   :icon_wink: .

Just a note - Round 2's review will be delayed slightly due to technical difficulties (my headset broke and my mic sounds like going through a wind tunnel).  I will post new air time when my headset arrives.

Sorry for the short notice but the round ended early and I'm busy next Monday so....

RRR #3 airs tomorrow, Monday July 1st at 14:00 EDT!  We will also have a special guest on the show to discuss a topic I think EVERYONE is interested in hearing something about.  Should be a really great one so I hope everyone tunes in!

hey i loved it.

you should try something like having 4 players commenting their game, could be fun

For the part about our game, it is interesting to hear renaud pov on what happened and comparing it to what i thought :D

Cool idea ugri.  I like the idea of a forum perhaps I could act like a moderator and ask questions of the players as we watch their replay.  I'll keep this in my mind for future rounds!

even if you just got notes from a player or two if not all 4 were available, urgi's idea sounds amazing!!

It was a lot easier for me to talk about my own match.
Getting all 4 players would probably be hard (to schedule & to moderate) but having 1 or 2 could probably be great (probably the winner and/or someone who played a certain aspect of the game properly)

All really good ideas.  I liked this one quite a bit, although I admit I only half listened because I was at work.  Renaud, you have excellent English.  I'm always super impressed by how well some people can speak a second language.  I have enough problems with it and it's my first language!

I really liked both the subject for this RRR, and how it was pulled off.  I think that RKK dominating the talking for the most part, but I don't think that was bad.  Usually you do have to have one person, in this case the host/RKK, driving everything while the guest is there to dig deeper into different areas.  Perhaps watch the time a bit though.  Maybe try to think of it like a TV show.  You want to figure out what the best amount of time is for keeping people interested and then try to get the times around that for every episode.

It'd also be a lot easier if you could pick and choose the clips/areas of the game you wanted to go to so we don't have the awkward pauses when listening of well here we're going 8x... and I think there's some chat coming up soon... etc.  But, I have no good ideas on how to fix that besides ones that would take an unbelievable amount of work.

Very nice job you two, I think this has been the best one yet and they just keep improving!  Keep up the fantastic work RKK.

P.S. I'll go ahead and add this to the highlights and youtube and then change your links so that your work doesn't get deleted!

^_^ yay!

I will work on keeping them all about the same length.  Any feedback on what the right length would be is appreciated.  I was originally shooting for about an hour per episode.

Since you are adding some ads now it will be 1h overall (lol that ad about wipes was hilarious in the middle of your comment)

yeah 1 hour is good. When it goes over 1 hour I find myself skipping around or just having it play in background while I do other things. Like all the previous episodes ^^

ahahahah nice.  yeah I'll try to keep them to an hour for starters.  I'm also thinking of maybe doing them in segments, like day9 does for his sc2 casts.  He does like 3x 20ish minute parts with 5 min breaks.

should do 4x 15ish min
that way its 1 part per game ;)

True but sometimes games are a little longer or i have more to say.  I will play with the timing, maybe change it up to add breaks next season.
