Hi nerds!

As you may know, Pad (creator of w3arena and w3booster) has managed to create a ladder for 1on1, called w3champions. I am in close contact with him to see how and when we can get FFA into it.

Due to the high workload, Pad will not get to FFA before mid of April. Therefore, we have some time to gather feedback within our community. We need to keep in mind that w3champions ladder will only work with roughly 100-200 active FFA players per day. It seems doable to me, even if we would have no true matchmaking with that player base still. Should still be much better than the current Bnet Versus mode, as the average skill level will be higher.

Two ideas that I have could maybe help to make it even more attractive:

• We can use the "anonymity trigger" of RoboGoblin in all map files, so it is partially anon again (at least after the loading screen).
• Two of the ten maps in the map pool could be random hero. So if you don't want to play random hero, you just veto the two maps and else you'll play random hero every now and then

Update2: FFA succeeded in the poll. In order to support Pad and compensate for the programming hours, I would like to raise 500€ for the implementation of FFA into w3champions. Since this is what I agreed with Pad, I would try to collect the money via PayPal (hightacelf@gmail.com). If you want to add something to it (F10EX, Mage and me provide 150€ combined), I will make sure your name is on the donator list and will handle the money with care. Thank you all!

@HighTac maybe Pad can implement something like covering the screen with an overlay during the game loading + robogoblins trigger

That's awesome.  I will be able to donate some $ towards this cause.

Could he make the names Anonymous on the loading screen, instead of needing to use a workaround (Robogoblin trigger, etc.)?  Not sure if that is a possibility or not.

In my opinion, the map rotation could be larger if doable.  For example:

No, he can't make it anonymous as we had it. That's why I suggested the trigger. 

Thanks for your map pool suggestion. Twisted Meadows and Gold Rush are the only map of these that I really dislike for FFA (I'd rather include Sanctuary or Northshire and the map that'll win our FML Map Contest). Also, we may need to exclude Harvest and Fountain of Manip, because of their bridge. Not sure yet if that's really solved.

I like Twisted Meadows instead of Lost Temple... I think it is one of the best 4 player maps but I'm good without it. 

Gold Rush on the other hand, in my opinion, is similar to Sanctuary but a superior version.  Sanctuary is often a super long game on rather boring map; Gold Rush is cool because the bases are closer together and the chance for an epic game is higher.  Plus, no shredder is actually a good thing on these maps with mass gold. 

I agree, I'd like for sure the winner of the map making competition to be included.  I also like Northshire more so than Sanctuary.

Sanctuary one of the few S tier maps. Incredible. Truly an amazing creation.

Northshire good too.

Also any map where Undead is the best is usually a trash map (like TM or Gnoll Wood) for FFA.


The weird one that I really love is Banewood Bog. Probably one of my favorite maps of all time. I don't remember which version of it though, but it was the first version I played (with the dragon roosts).

seksi's maps look good to me but i would add the original sanctuary over gold rush for sure. the rest are great. although i will be thumbs downing anarchy lol

This sure sounds amazing.
Ladder isn't coming for another 2 months at least. And you are sure to expect lags, desyncs, and probably anon will be something they will forget, obviously
So this sounds like a solution for short and long term
Even after ladder is implemented by blizzard
I support seksi's mappool looks interesting and dynamic.
Id support also the project with funds
Maybe open a crowdfund?

Not sure if we want to set up a separate crowdfund platform for this, as FML and Pad both have Patreon accounts. However, to make sure it's linked to w3champions FFA, you can send it via PayPal to hightacelf@gmail.com if you like. I will collect and log the donations in this thread until mid of April and make a one time payment to Pad from the entire community. I will probably add around 50€ myself.
