Title: Future Plans for YouTube
Post by: FML|Mage on August 13, 2014, 10:29:07 am
:FMLN:

Hi all,

As I'm sure a lot of you have noticed I've been even more inquisitive than normal with regards to what people think of the current YouTube videos.  What they would like to see more of, less of, etc.  With all that being said, we believe that it is time to start expanding a bit.  I'd type it all out, however I suspect not as many people would read it if I did.  Instead I'll leave the following video to explain it for me.  If people would please let us know what they think then that would be great.  As always, thanks to everyone for watching!

I enjoyed the silly AT :P
For the future plans... I have no clues!  Mostly because I din't think I would enjoy a silly AT but I did, so I'm obviously not a good judge of what I will or wont like until I actually see it

That's completely fair haha.  My thought process was as follows, let me know what you think of it.

First, I'm never going to be involved in playing in a high level 2v2.  I was decent to begin with 8 years ago, now I'm purely awful haha.  Worpex and I certainly are never going to be a competitive 2s team haha.  This would mean commentating on other people's 2v2 games which I have no problem with.  However I really don't think I know enough about current strategies, builds, etc in 2s or solo to be informative on it.  I'd be happy to do color commentating on the games, but I'm not sure it would really add anything of value to it.  I might consider doing some more competitive casting for 2v2s if I found a good partner for it, but there are already a lot of people who do it and are very good at it.  I was thinking I might find more of a niche and play to my strong suit by doing silly strategies in 2s.

I'm sure that some people will disagree or won't like the new ideas as they come out and that's fine.  My hope is that some will, and we'll find some new fans as well.

Just my thought process on it, and thanks for the feedback!

I understand mage. But maybe the strat isnt just silly enough. Problem here is that you'd need quite some skills to do a really silly strat AND pull it off. (Mass faerie, mass sorc, tankdrops,...)

Rich and shaped do it a lot and its great because they pull it off vs good teams. But they are top tier players ofcourse.

Nonetheless, its a great effort you are doing and for the average warcraft-sympathiser (dont know if this is a word in english lol) its awesome

I don't think we were really going for silly strategies so much as just putting out some new content for content's sake. I really like the idea of doing some silly strategies though and attempting to win with them!

I'd be interested in more interviews with FML players about their backgrounds and their views on the progression of FFA/FML, maybe some highlight reels of past seasons, a history of FML video, or any other FML-centered content in general.

Awesome, all great ideas that I would like to cover!  That's what the essence of Game Night (or whatever it turns out to be called) will be.

Ugrilainen made 2 reviews of Season 1 and 2 finals some year ago. That was actually a great idea, though he did not ever make more of them. (I think they were banned because of the music he used afaik) Maybe they're still up. A must watch imo.

They're very good. Very low production quality, however he really does a nice job of capturing the essence of the games as well as summarizing them.  Another very good idea!

Those videos are really well put together. Wish there was similar for the rest of the FML finals. I also like to see similar recaps for good games throughout the season that tell stories of how the season went, for instance if a player dominated a season and didn't win the final, etc. Also with permanent health bars, better video editing and possibly voice in addition to, or replacing, text captions the videos could be better. Also throw in more 'background' at the beginning of the recaps such as how the finalists did in the season and where they come from, etc, would be cool. FML has been around for a decade so there is a lot of history that I feel can be recovered and documented for those interested (and I'm sure there are many people interested). It could also rekindle or generate new interest in the league.

Man those were cool videos.  I liked seeing the army compositions back in the day.  Love for MGs and love for necrowagon.  Was that WorpeX (Red Orc) with the super Earthquake?
Also Target only going two heroes, MK Paladin Mass gryphon/hawks is awesome.  NOstalgia!!

The red Orc was LeL  - no idea why he used Worpex' as a name. Maybe Worpex can clarify that.

On topic, I like Red's ideas Mage.  As for casting 2v2 matches, I think that would only be interesting if the skill level was good (playing FFA style 2s AT for example).

I also would enjoy hearing casts of big show matches where we have 8+ players in a big custom game.

The transition into youtube has gone well and deserves more exposure.  I will try to promote it when I stream also (link to see FML's youtube and new content).  It would be nice if there were timely installments (weekly, bi-weekly or what not) that people could subscribe and look forward too.

Mage and I were trying to do weekly installments but we were having a hard time with schedule conflicts. Also then when we had time we couldn't find games to cast! Because most good games are like 2+hours long. Maybe a fan section where people can give feedback on games they would like to see casted? Like old FML finals or certain games from the season etc. We weren't sure if people wanted to sit through long games or if they prefer short games only...things like that.

This was in FML's infancy where we were more worried about expanding and promoting the league then hackers. LeL got his account on Garena banned (likely due to hacking, although he claimed it was from some other program which wasn't a hack) and so I let him use my account for the finals. Coincidentally, that account was also banned after the match.

All very good points and I'll try to address them.

@Seksi.

Glad to see you like Red's idea, I'm absolutely going to do the interviews with the Game Night feature.  The finals recaps will be a bit more challenging but the more I think about it the more I like it.  As for the 2s that's completely fair.  I don't expect everyone to like them, but so far the feedback has been positive if a bit luke warm.  I'll probably continue to do a set of them and see how the reaction ends up being in the long run.

I've got mixed feelings on the Big FFA's.  Usually the replays are pretty terrible.  The skill quality in those games tends to be lower, and the final 3 way can drag even longer than normal games since people finally have a chance to hoard.  That being said, I actually think they're a blast to do live because usually the early game has more action.  I'd like to more of them live, but the problem is that I have maybe 4-5 free hours a week and none of them line up with when 8 people are free to do a live game.  I'll keep that in mind though and would like to do a live cast on an 8 way with a bunch of good players.

As for the scheduled installments, they actually are now.  Time is impossible to do because of upload speeds and processing, however the videos have been only coming out on Sundays for the past 4 or 5 months.  When I asked a while ago that appeared to be the most popular day for when people wanted them out.  It was a weekly release for a while, however I went off the radar for 5 weeks and didn't release anything which threw a wrench in the works.

In the video I talk a bit about what I would like to see, and long term that is that there will be a video put out Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday.  It would be a lot of content, but that's why I'm looking at other productions as well obviously since they're easier to create a back catalog of. Any promotion is greatly appreciated, thanks!  And thank you for all the comments, it's exactly what I'm looking for.

@Mog Good call on fan request section, I'll go ahead and create that today.

@pinball : i stopped doing them because there were very few views at that time but we did not have official channels then.

Now that I became a decent caster, I could probably do something betterwith the followings
